Absolutely ridiculous. They'll be no one in Croke Park , Kerry have very little support (not a dig) and Galway have the hurlers going well and now the World Cup is on will take a lot of Galway supporters away from this game. Put it on at 5 on Saturday no?

Don't think so, while I wouldn't be as big a soccer/football fan as I used to be, Galway City would be a a big soccer town, and always has been.

This is nonsense from the GAA. Never mind any tribalism about "foreign sports" or whatever, the World Cup Final is one of the biggest events in the world and to put on a round robin quarter final of the All-Ireland series clashing with it is the height of idiocy. Didn't something similar happen with the Euros?

They're on another planet completely with these fixtures, Donegal folk not getting on the road out of Dublin til 9pm on a Saturday night as well.

And Dublin always seem to get a 4pm game yet that day they'll be playing at 7pm, mysterious that.

This is not good for gate receipts or TV market share and shows really poor judgement and planning by the grab alls. In some ways this is worse than Newbridge because its difficult for them to own up to the careless oversight. Time change now would we best option or play Saturday in the Dublin Donegal slot. Some ejects up there in GAA hierarchy. What a way to roll out the super eights, it is so embarrassing.

Four football games to be played over the weekend - at present they are all down for Croke Park - so two double headers only way to go. Can only imagine the outrage & crying if the first two were put down for Friday night or starting at 11 on Sunday morning. I'm as interested as the next man in the soccer world cup but hey the GAA have to look after their / our own fixtures. Sporting fixtures clash all the time, you decide which if any is the most important to you - will Wimbledon be changing the time of their mens final just because it clashes with the world cup? I doubt it unless possibly England reach the final even then its hard to see it happen.

It's almost like the GAA have been boought out by a bank and is treating players and supporters like customers with no customer care. Break their commitment to give home advantage in the qualifiers to the county drawnup out first. Schedule Croke Park as the neutral ground for Dublin v Donegal. Schedule Galway v Kerry to clash directly with the World Cup Final. They're shaping up to give all their efforts to Super 8 counties and ignore poorer standards of the rest. Similar to a bank adding in silly fees in the hope you don't notice them and even if you do they know the majority won't complain. Only a matter of time before some players and supporters get disillusioned with intercounty football and concentrate on club football or stay away and/or drift to other sports. Time to get rid of the Croke Park accountants and get some GAA people with the greater good of the game in their thoughts to shape the future

I remember in 2016 meath and dublin was changed as it clashed with the Ireland and Crance Euros game. I'd be surprised if the game was changed if Dublin weren't involved in that fixture. Likewise, irs strange alright in this situation that Dublin and Donegal is fixed for the night before

Good boy, you managed to shoehorn Dublin into a thread about Galway v Kerry, three times no less.
People are moaning where we are playing Donegal and now knickers are in twists as to when it's played, you couldn't make it up.

Why couldn't they have the games at 12 and 2, that way it wouldn't clash with the world cup final. I can see them doing this as I can't see any downside.

Wont be played at 4pm on a Sat because of the residents previous protests.

Only reason Dublin game moved from the Sunday is because of the WC Final and its effect on the attendance,
Money matters to the fore here by the GAA.
Kerry fans dont travel in big numbers so that is why it is on the Sunday.

Exactly - some joined up thinking at last. 12 and 2pm

Only issue I think would be certain counties complaining that 12noon is too early for travel etc etc.

The far bigger issue here is that the Galway hurlers are due out the same Sunday if they lose this weekend. How on earth are the Galway hurlers and footballers potentially scheduled to play the same day? How was Galway Kerry not fixed for the Friday night, and Dublin Donegal for the Sunday, with that situation potentially happening?

I appreciate your good points but take Wimbledon, they know the fixture clashes way in advance and their fans are typically not soccer one's. The Galway/Kerry is not a final just a round robin that could be fixed around a WC Final. GAA will lose money too. I'm GAA first and will watch the gaelic but I am considered an ethnocentric dinosaur by most of my extended family, Godbless them, Gaillimh Abu

I remember back in 2002 they put Donegal Derry up against Ireland Spain. According to wikipedia the attendance was 4000.

"Played under a surreal atmosphere in the first half, the game really only came alive after the break, and particularly when Derry were reduced in numbers.

The crowd was minimal because of Ireland's World Cup distractions.

The decision by the Ulster Council not to change the start time will come in for criticism."
