Dublin Getting 2 Home Games In The Super 8s. Fair Or Unfair?

Why not play it in a neutral province ?

Surely that's the most neutral thing to do?"
Neutral province?? I think some Dublin fans need to look at a map of Ireland so they understand the distances between certain counties and venues. A neutral venue should mean that both teams travel a similar distance so it's fair to both players and supporters. Look at the draw for the qualifiers this weekend, they're being played in a Leinster venue but you have teams from Ulster playing Laois and Kildare and no one has an issue with this because it's a proper neutral venue.

The Donegal and Dublin game will be played in Croke Park but this should be reviewed for next year.

The Donegal game wont be moved, its not even worth discussing. The first round of games have been planned for a while and will be part of a weekend of football in Dublin 1 and part of a double header. It doesn't matter the distance of any other venue, it wont happen at this stage IMHO.

A curious thing though and a genuine question, how come Donegal have not agitated the way Kildare have if the perceived unfairness is so strongly felt? Are fans planning to boycott the game?

If people are just going to accept it this year, which seems the case, are people going to bring this up at club and intercounty delegate level? Maybe propose a motion for congress next year? now is the time really, congress isnt that far away. No point bleating on here about it.

I think if a game was going to moved it would be Dublins home game, and due to the nature of it, Dublin should elect to where it should be played. My personal preference would be PUC, barring that id like Salthill or Nowlan Park.

Parnell Park can barely hold the Dublin season ticket holders so it isn't a viable option. Dublin have won 5 of the last 7 All Ireland's. They are a brilliant side and therefore they last thing Gaelic Football needs is Croke Park manufacturing ways to give them additional advantages. But remember, Dublin will play wherever they are sent. This is not Dublin's fault. It's the GAA's fault for not correcting an issue that was raised even before the proposal was passed. Personally, I think that the ego's in Croke Park are so fragile, they can't have another climbdown after last week and before last week, they didn't know what a climbdown was!"
If Dublin have 5000 season ticket holders, Parnell Park can comfortably accommodate that and likely Roscommon or Armagh season ticket holders, just limit the attendance and tickets on general sale as per Newbridge last week. Its that simple really.

There is no reason why Dublin home game cant be played in the Neller really.

I don't think the unfairness is all that strongly felt in Donegal to be honest. There are points to be made certainly, but I'm much more annoyed at our home game being last rather than giving the provincial winners the carrot of a home game opener of the Super 8s. I'm quite happy to have a crack at the Dubs in Croker, but I can see why there is a discussion around the neutral vs home match. I'd be more inclined to think like yourself and move the Dublin home match to Parnell Park, but I'd be surprised if it happens.

For ourselves, I think it's a great opportunity and a great learning curve for our young players to be playing Dublin at the business end in a (hopefully) packed Croke Park. Ideally in the future I would suggest that these provincial winners facing off should be the second match of the Super 8s.

The entire championship is not a level playing field anyway so this wont make much difference. The provinces are completely unbalanced. Even just from a numbers perspective a team can get to the super 8s a provincial winners by winning 2 games while another may need 4 or 5.

Dublin will get their 2 games in Croker.. sure most years they were getting all of their games there

I wonder what the schedule for these matches in Corker, will it be will it be group 1 or Group 2 on the Saturday or the Sunday.

Might make more sense for traveling Donegal fans to have it on the Saturday, given that they have the furthest to travel.

I think the powers that be were so afraid of having dead rubbers in the last round of games that they have bent over backwards to give the "lesser" teams (like Tyrone) :-) a shot. The thing to bear in mind about the Dublin group is that, if you assume that Dublin win all their games (which they should considering 2 are at home):-) its really a 3 team mini league for one place.

Since when does it matter a toss one way or the other to CP what makes sense for supporters with long distances to travel?

You'd want to refresh your geography kid as Kerry people have just as far to travel as Donegal people, but sure if ye left crokepark every now and again ye might know that.

The only thing that'll matter in this regard is how the games will clash with the World Cup Final and the potential revenue lost by fans choosing to watch this match over their own county's game. The decision regarding fixtures and times will be hugely influenced by this, I'd imagine.

More fertiliser being produced in Dublin to keep the grass nice and green, I suspect.

I just hope that the top brass have done the maths in guaranteeing a home match for every county. Dublin must have about 10K season ticket holders who are guaranteed a ticket for the super 8s."
No one is guaranteed a ticket with the season ticket and isn't a lot of those 'season tickets' parnell passes which aren't official gaa season tickets?

Croke Park will be a ghost town for that Kerry game
