It really is that simple. If Croke Park was in Galway then Galway would play their home games there. It makes economic sense and justifies the existence of the stadium and the cost it took to build it. Dublin would love to have Parnell Park expanded and play all of their home games there but apart from the lack of room to develop it wouldn't make economic sense anyway with Croker just a downhill freewheel from Donnycarney.

Its an interesting debate, i believe the grounds are maintained by the county boards but ultimately owned by the GAA. True Dublin pay a rent to Croke Park for the league but this isnt the case in the Championship, i think that rent is only fair as county boards pay for the upkeep of their county grounds, that isnt necessary for Croke Park as Croke Park is a different model really the stadium has its own management company. But ultimately all counties grounds are owned by the GAA. To be honest, i see little difference in say the "ownership" of Croke Park and any other county ground to be honest, they are all owned by the GAA. Locally the biggest of all these county is generally used as that counties "home ground", Dublin's is Croke Park, they play all their one games their like every other county play theirs in their counties biggest ground, its Dublins home ground really. All grounds are owned by the GAA. If "Pàirc an Phiarsaigh" got a face lift and catered for 80k people and hosted all Ireland finals, would it cease to be Galways "home ground". Probably not. If it isnt the case that Croke Park isnt Dublin home ground why all moaning about Dublin "home games". Totally rattled :D TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 08/07/2018 10:47:55 2119532 Link 1 |
Do Dublin have 10k season ticket holders ? I thought 5 was the max ? 10 thousand doesn't seem accurate but I could be wrong . This also needs to be addressed . Various grounds in Ireland cannot hold 12 thousand so what happens if Dublin play those counties in future super 8s or leinster matches ? We know Dublin fans would travel anywhere - it's a massive fan base due to a number of reasons . It is blantantly unfair on Donegal . Two away matches for winning Ulster . The GAA said one home , one away and one croker . The latter was designed to be the neutral match . It's just the principal of it all. Not Dublin's fault . paddy92 (Donegal) - Posts: 141 - 08/07/2018 11:00:25 2119536 Link 0 |
So Monaghan should stop using Clones as it is the home ground for the Ulster Final. witnof (Dublin) - Posts: 1604 - 08/07/2018 11:51:06 2119556 Link 1 |

At the risk of repeating myself, every other team has 2 away matches

The GAA spends Millions on Dubs home ground... And lets the other grounds rot. Somehow Dubs can make out that to be fair??? By the way there was A Mayo Woman (Dietician) hit in the head and brought to hospital that day you couldnt get your own way in warm up. Disgusting behaviour.

That is not actually correct, every other team has 1 away game, 1 home game and 1 neutral game. For example Tyrone are playing Roscommon in Croke Park in a nuetral game, not an away game for either side. If I follow your logic correctly, you are saying that Croke Park is not Dublin's home venue, therefore Dublin are playing 3 away games in the Super 8s lol.

I have never agreed with the old quarter-finals being played in Croke Park. I always maintained the provincial champions should have been given home advantage. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7822 - 08/07/2018 12:50:45 2119578 Link 0 |
Call it a neutral game if you want it's still away from home! I don't see the difference! Sorry!

Let me try and make this simple for you. When you are playing "away" the other team is at "home" and has an advantage in that they are familiar with the pitch & usually have an advantage in the number of supporters as they have less distance to travel. In a "neutral" game neither team has those advantages & therefore neither team has an advantage. Can't make it any simpler than that. I really think some people would want look up the difference between location and ownership, we play in a stadium which we are very familiar with, do we have superior access no , can we train there no , can the lads avail of any of the facilities prior to match day no , is it an advantage to us yes as it's less traveling, did Kildare say stick to the AGREED rules YES , are Dublin doing anything different NO, should it be looked at Yes next year , and by the way speak through your club and delegates if your so offended , by all means type an email , but don't complain after the fact

You're either putting this astounding display of thickness on, or you are actually thick. Can't make my mind up..... MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 08/07/2018 20:39:35 2119779 Link 9 |
Couple of points Damo, 1 Most counties don't actually train on their county grounds anymore. 2 You do have "superior access" insofar as you play every home game there. 3 No need to speak through anyone, review already announced. 4 Nobody is "offended", sick to the back teeth would be more like it. Serious question, would Donegal be better off putting out their U20s against Dublin next week and keeping their powder dry for the games against Tyrone and Roscommon? KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 08/07/2018 21:03:03 2119792 Link 0 |
