Red Hands Seeking Under 20 Reprieve

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tyrone are appealing their exit from the Ulster U20 football championship.

The Red Hands were beaten by Armagh after two periods of extra time at the Athletic Grounds last Friday night, in a game that was marred by a mass brawl involving up to 60 individuals from both camps.

The Orchard County have thus qualified for a meeting with Derry in the inaugural provincial U20 decider on Sunday week, although Tyrone are appealing their defeat on a technicality, according to The Irish News.

The grounds for the appeal are that referee Niall McKenna reduced both teams to 13 men following the melee at the end of the first phase of extra time but allowed both to be restored to 15 for the second phase of extra time. This appears to be a breach of the ruling that "Phase 2 of Extra Time shall be considered an extension of the initial Extra Time rather than as a new period of Extra Time".

Just read the full article, take your beating move on , I know rules are rules before anyone gets on their soap box but if you know anything about sport you would know the Tyrone lads know they were beat ,if they went into win an all Ireland they'd never get rid of that devil on their shoulder whispering imposter

I could understand if it was just Armagh down to 13 and then came up to 15 but when both teams got the same advantage its fairly desperate appealing and laughable. Would they have appealed if they won the game? Dry up and tale your beaten

Staying at 13 aside would have been a disadvantage to Tyrone.

take it on the chin and learn from it instead of trawling the flamin rule book for a get off clause, considering tyrone cb perfected the rule book trawl this is not surprising, would it not be better for the tyrone ccc to sit and watch the unsavoury incident again and identify those individuals who brought tyrone gaa into disrepute with their loutish behaviour and ban players on top of whatever punishment is dished out from croke park, as for the mentors and side line guys who got involved how about sacking them for their behaviour and not allowing them to be involved with teams again

It does appear bit silly if true. Obviously they do not like to be playing with 15 players.

Has any action been taken yet against both teams following the mass brawl.

If this is true then it is ridiculous in the extreme. Like why can't Tyrone just be normal?

It's like they have a meeting once a fortnight to discuss what they can do to infuriate the rest of the country.

Still under investigation. I would say a good few suspensions and a big fine. Not sure how suspensions will effect Tyrone though - unless they win match appeal.

Grow up, and learn not to defend everything your own county does. We lost the match, we lost the fight, we lost even more respect around the rest of the country. We should be keeping our head down and moving on.

And if we do seek to have it replayed, we should be gone to town on with fines and suspensions.

Good man. Great to see some Tyrone supporters calling it as it is.

This is an embarrassing situation and it is totally indefensible.

Ridiculous decision from Tyrone GAA to appeal this. I would be worried about the direction Tyrone are heading in. There is more off pitch headlines now than on pitch headlines which would have me concerned if I was a Tyrone Gael.

you miss my point completely...by breaching the rule on extra time, the referee breached the rule
