Senior Hurling Championship

Saw a post on another site that has me wondering who is in charge of the Brendan Davis cup?

Kildalkey and Ratoath both lost the senior semi finals. Kildalkey only had to beat Rathmolyon and Navan to get to the BD cup final. But to reach the final Ratoath need to beat Blackhall Gaels, Kilmessan, and Trim which seems a much tougher route. Plus Kiltale and Na Fianna aren't even in it?

I can't remember this going to a vote with the clubs? It seems to have been sprung out of nowhere.

It does seem quite an easy route for Kildalkey. They haven't had much luck with fixtures this year though to be fair to them. They'll probably get the final in Kildalkey too which is what they deserve.

Seems strange that Kiltale aren't permitted in it. They'll be 5 weeks without a match before they play first round of the Leinster. Of course it would make it harder for Kildalkey to win if kiltale were in it so better off not having them there.

The whole competition is a joke. No player has any interest in playing after championship, and with u21 hurling championship now on, it won't be given the respect it deserves. We played Dunboyne in July the very first year and it was a great occasion, the competition needs to be ran off early in year without county players available until semi final stage at very least. Championship starts in the middle of June, so play the first 3 rounds (provisional quarter final, quarter final and semi finals) as warm up games for the championship, on Wednesday nights in April and May. And play the final in July on a Friday evening. Meath Footballers will more than likely be still in Championship so there would be no Football on, and even if there was, you can give players a 4 day break between football championship and this final easily.

Doesn't look it. The fixtures have Trim Vs. Ratoath this weekend, with the winners playing Kildalkey, in Kildalkey, the following weekend.

Nobody wants to play it this time of year
Not sure why kildalkey wanted it played this late in the year

Lads why would Kiltale be such strong favourites to beat Fethard of Wexford in the Leinster Intermediate Hurling Championship on Saturday?

Consider this - the game is in Wexford Park.
Fethard have momentum. Back to back Junior and Intermediate Wexford Champions, Leinster Junior Champions. All Ireland Finalists. Now in Wexford Senior ranks. I know Kiltale are 5 in a row Meath Champions but are Kiltale worth being 4/11 favourites? Interested in getting Meath Hurling opinions on this game.

Well Kiltale have the momentum of 5 senior hurling titles. Plus no teams other than Kilkenny clubs have beaten Kiltale in a knockout game in 5 years. Their record vs. the last few Wexford intermediate champions is pretty good too.

2016 Quarter-final Kiltale 2-24 - 2-08 Oylegate-Glenbrien
2015 Quarter-final Kiltale 2-13 - 1-13 Naomh Éanna
2014 Quarter-final Kiltale 3-15 - 0-10 Shamrocks

Because Kiltale have generally gotten the better of Wexford opposition in this competition in recent years. This year's Wexford senior hurling semi finalists (Oylegate-Glenbrien) played Kiltale in the Leinster championship in 2016. Kiltale beat them by 16 points. Bennetsbridge lost this year's Kilkenny SHC final by 3 points and Kiltale were only narrowly beaten by them in the 2015 Leinster Final.
No guarantees that Kiltale will beat them but they've only been beaten by Kilkenny opposition in this competition in their last 4 attempts.

2015 Quarter-final Kiltale 2-13 - 1-13 Naomh Éanna
Naomh Eanna went on to win the wexford senior championship a few weeks ago

On paper kiltale should be favs but they have always played wexford teams at home , this is first away game
Plus the 4 week gap between games will not help at all , something the cb should look at , 2 weeks is ideal
This will be a very tricky tie for them to get over
4/11 is crazy stuff

i would fancy kiltale to win this but my only concern is the long gap since there last competitive game, they will need to hit the ground running and try kill off the oposition as quick as possible, i for one would like to see them win a leinster as they are a very good team and for Meath hurling to progress we need our County champs to win a leinster title, looking at the kilkenny result this weekend it suggested that Grauige were going to fall to a heavy defeat but recovered form 9 down to win by 3 which means if kiltale get over this weekend they will need to perform very well for the full game to see off what could be a tough kilkenny team. agree our fixtures should review the final date allowing not more than 3 weeks between our final and 1st round of leinster (3 weeks allowing for a replay if needed). Referee for the wexford game is from Carlow, could this be a factor.

Lads, I hope I didn't offend anyone. I know Kiltale are good. I just thought 4/11 was a poor price in an away fixture. At the time of playing them Naomh Eanna and Oylegate had no Leinster experience. I think Naomh Eanna could be vulnerable against Camross on Sunday for that reason. Fethard have last year's success behind them. My own club is Glenealy, I thought we had the competition won last November in Nowlan Park v Ballyragget only for a Dublin ref to hand them the game with 2 handy frees in injury time.

How far down the pecking order is meath hurling. One of our best senior club teams for years can't beat a wexford intermediate team and wexford club hurling isn't exactly top of the tree.

I don't think this was just a Wexford Intermediate team they were actual Intermediate Champions and won last year's All Ireland Junior Championship. Now that's not all in the Leinster Junior Hurling Championship Wexford are represented by their Intermediate A champions so they actually have form over a few years.

Of course we should expect our Senior Champions to go well in the Leinster Intermediate Championship but alas this is not to be the year. Incidentally in Munster the Kerry Senior Champions are also competing in the Intermediate Championship since grading was introduced in 2006 I think and have yet to win it. So we are not alone in the mid ranked counties.

I said before how winning the CR made people think a switch had been flicked and that we were suddenly one of the big dogs at all levels. Aside from that 1 win vs. Kerry in Navan, we've been out of our depth at the top level in senior, and our clubs, schools, minors,U21s etc. are nowhere near making a step up.

We win All Ireland U21B and minor B titles alright, but we've always done that and it's never really been a springboard for any senior success. 15 years ago lads my age were winning those competitions but all most of them got in their senior careers was a Nicky Rackard or Kehoe Cup medal.

Fethard lost that junior final to Ardmore. Also, intermediate A in Wexford is called junior in other counties, but it is effectively junior just with the wrong name on it.

so they've won the Wexford junior and intermediate county titles one year after another. They had been in junior (inter A) for a good few years and won the intermediate this year as huge underdogs.

Saw some highlights of the game today, 2 well taken goals from Kiltale. Seems from accounts that they just had a better spread and balanced team. Fethard goal doing the rounds on twitter was spectacular.
