I am heading over to the match this weekend so I am looking forward to it. This is a real unique match for the Wee County to have a championship match abroad. It's not the first time that Louth and London have faced each other in the Championship. They played each other in 1910 and 1913 and Louth have won both matches. In the league Louth and London have played each other five times in the last twenty years with Louth winning all five matches. So London have yet to beat Louth at senior football level. London's only win in the qualifiers came in 2011 when they beat Fermanagh in Ruislip while Louth's last win in the qualifiers was in 2015 against Leitrim in Drogheda. Louth have not won an away match in the qualifiers since beating Kildare in Newbridge in 2007. This is a great opportunity for London to win a rare Championship match. Lots of lads have left the London panel since there defeat to Sligo, Louth will win this handy enough if they turn up with the right attitude. Safe journey Ollie and enjoy those few pints in Ruislip. Yourjoking (USA) - Posts: 699 - 07/06/2018 15:31:21 2108416 Link 0 |
Louth have played ten matches this year between the O Byrne Cup, League and Championship and their record is one win and nine defeats. In most of them matches that Louth have lost they have been beaten well. It will be a tough one for the Wee County. Cheers Yourjoking. I am looking forward to the trip.

Enjoy Ollie. I went over in 2014 the last time we played them in the provincial championship. Pretty packed with a big travelling support. They have put in a stand since. Nice occasion for ex pats to meet.

Rumour is that only 12 turned up for weekend away in Mayo before Carlow game. Huge chance for London. FootblockREF (Monaghan) - Posts: 562 - 08/06/2018 14:50:26 2108720 Link 0 |
A great weekend all around. Happy enough with the score and the performance. Louth's first win since beating Kildare in the O'Byrne Cup this year. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 13/06/2018 12:03:49 2110971 Link 0 |

Cheers Loyalroyal. Yes it was a badly needed win for Louth. Hard luck to Meath. It is strange to see Louth in the Championship while Meath are out. This is the first time since 1992 that Louth lasted longer than Meath in the Championship.

This is bottom of the barrel stuff for Louth football. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 707 - 13/06/2018 22:57:00 2111331 Link 1 |
As someone who visits Louth frequently and keeps an eye on their GAA world it's a hard one to fully analyze. From what I see of it there is a very competitive county league structure way ahead of many counties and there seems to be big interest in it from players but for all that a share of what's played is average enough stuff but it's entertaining enough and honest football compared to the cynical stuff played at inter county and club level in many counties . Dundalk is one of the homes of league of Ireland soccer but there's plenty of Gaelic football clubs where as Drogheda seems all soccer and a satellite of Dublin . Gaelic football though is top sport in mid Louth and on the border Louth but these areas might not be that big . Louth are probably a bottom of div 2 or top of division 3 team ... not god enough for top of division 2 but a lot better than division 4 . Thats a long time Ollie. Hopefully morale in your camp is high now after a bad league. I wish our neighbours all the best for the rest of the Championship.

That's a ridiculous post. London have put in a lot of work under extremely trying circumstances to build a reasonably competitive team. There aren't sly comments about Waterford, Leitrim, Wexford, Limerick etc who let's be honest are as bad as London generally. It was great to see Waterford come through because I know how hard it is to build a team from such a low base with limited interest from club players. It is harder for lads in London than most counties. Believe it or not it can be nearly as quick to drive from Cork to Dublin than across London after work for training. Carlow would be a team that last year would have been at London's level and now look at their progress. Anyway congrats to Louth on a well deserved victory. Still a big GAA county. I have had the pleasure of playing there a number of times. BaldyBadger (Cork) - Posts: 311 - 14/06/2018 10:34:30 2111409 Link 0 |
Past Hurler you can only beat what's in front of you. This was a massive win for the Wee County. London was a potential banana skin. I traveled over myself and if London had won I would not have been one bit surprised. Now Louth can look forward to another day out against Leitrim.
