You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and all that. You could have Jim Gavin over this current group and all the money in the world and we still wouldn't win the All Ireland. I say take his money and invest in games development/coaching, clubs and schools around the county!

I didnt say he could bring us to winning an all Ireland. I'm saying we would have one hell of a team and if we had AIG behind us the resources available to us would be savage.

Stop looking at the Dubs! Can we not try and compete with counties like Monaghan and Tyrone who have far less funds than the Dubs but still compete in Division 1 and have had good runs in the championship over the years! I think our players suffer from Dub envy (maybe because we border them!) more than any other county!

When the manager changes yet the same mistakes are being made by the players .....it surely points to them being the main issue??"
The appetite just isn't there at the moment at grass roots or indeed any level. Against Longford I got the sense that the Meath crowd were expecting to lose. It was the same against Donegal last year.

The Meath faithful will attend the Tyrone game but most will be expecting to lose I would say.

It's a funny old dynamic...but until the Meath crowd start backing the team, the team ain't gonna get over these tight games. And the crowd ain't gonna get behind the team until the team start giving the crowd something to cheer.

Spot on. Look no further than Mayo also.

Tell us, what are the resources that would make such a difference to the team?

I think if the players were provided with big headphones like Dublin we might see an improvement in performance.

Trying to think of our last 3 really uplifting championship wins, were we came out feeling like we played well and were optimistic about the future (regardless of what actually happened thereafter). I've come up with these 3:

2012 v Kildare - We were completely written off and went out and won comfortably.
2010 v Dublin - needs no explanation!
2009 v Mayo - We won well against the Connacht champions and it qualified us for an AI semi final.

Only really 3 times in 9 years (10 campaigns) and nothing since 2012, that's pretty dire stuff, we could really really use a result against Tyrone.

Agreed. Let's not forget 07 against Tyrone too. Just to add to motivation. I see gg is doing the legend tour in hq on that day. Feck that graham get to pt and strike some fear into them boys

It thought the wins over galway in 07 and 11 were huge also. Real nail biters and great buzz at the end

Great buzz after the Galway game alright but I deliberately omitted that one because as far as I remember we didn't score for over 30mins of the second half. So while it was a dramatic feel good win it certainly wasn't an overall impressive performance.

Tyrone 07 was brilliant no doubt, but I left it out simply because it wasn't in the last 3 big wins. Well worth a mention though.....and hopefully a repeat on the 9th :-)

I'm assuming Dan O Neil comes in for McEntee, Power also gone. Not sure theres anyone else, we'll already have Keoghan pushed up to that line as is.

Elsewhere I guess one of the Wallace's will come in, could argue both should start but we have nothing off the bench, we need one to make an impact.

Other changes you'd make if we had the bodies but we are stuck.

I hate this phrase but look they're not Dublin, as last years semi will show. From what I've seen they haven't got any better, not as of yet anyway. Harte is a big loss as well, he's a leader on that team as was Kavanagh. The qualifiers have thrown up some strange results over the years, teams on paper and the division they operate don't always stand up.

We were a whisker away from doing the unexpected here last year, no reason we can't aim to go one better next week. We are up against it no doubt but if players and fans alike can't get up for this one with belief for 70 minutes we may as well throw the hat at it, as said it's an opportunity to send out a statement and see exactly where we are at, playing the best(top teams) can sometimes bring out the best in everyone and if we give them a rattle and something to think about, who knows.

Let's get a big crowd down behind them and do our bit anyway, see where it takes us.

This time next week we could all be angry gorllias throwing our own poop against the wall from another defeat and early summer exit, Or we could be on a high if we win against Tyrone , And a pint of the black stuff or something might be the sweetest pint we had in a long time, And Andy and the lads will be great lads altogether . That's the thin line between success and failure is mind boggling :/ Like its either the end or the start of something is how i feel about this game next week...and the beauty about it is that the 15 lads or so on the pitch next week will determine that!
