Meath V Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'll be honest, I'm desperate for a big win at this stage, we haven't resoundingly upset the odds since beating Kildare in 2012, it's been a famine of epic proportions and I'd love to see it end today. Not expecting a win but I'm hoping for the best.

Just the one I would imagine, Joey Wallace for Brian McMahon

I dont know where the optimism is coming from. We have been appalling all year. I hope we can pull of a miracle but I think Tyrone by maybe 8 points or more

will be a very tight contest and can go any way, no hiding places today, one of them will be playing no more championship football after June 9th which will be nothing only a disaster for whichever one, Andy MC or Micky hart will be stepping down tomorrow.

Frustrating first half. Not playing well defense getting pulled apart at times. Colgan made huge error for point, but has pulled off some awesome saves. Where do we go? Biggie and others need to start shooting from 45.

Will be criminal if we lose this. We just do not know how to win at the moment.

Tyrone are there for the taking and we cannot finish it off.

I know we should have had a free at the end, i know the team gave everything but 1 point up and the game almost over and we still cannot close the deal.

Honourable defeat means nothing. Next competitive game January 2019.

Great chance to win tonight and we have blown it again

Robbed. Totally robbed. I don't do moral victories. I hated Roscommon before this. Now I despise them.
Robbed.

Well done to Tyrone, they know how to win and sadly we just don't. Hard luck to our lads though, it's gut wrenching stuff, they put in a huge effort, they gave it everything on the pitch and things aren't going their way.

A great effort by the team. But we need every footballer in Meath to commit Defensively we are still poor and we miss a big target man to bring in to change things up.

That's that i guess for another 7 months for the county team...very hard to build up Meath football as a brand and bring up players to a standard to compete if we are not playing competitive games for another 7 months ! it erodes away at Football in Meath and interest !

Hard look to the lads today ..good effort i must say

Agree that everyone must commit, the bench was light this evening. What has RD to say now about Biggie..he let it slip in normal time.

This is no moral victory, even if the ref stank to hell we had them in normal time but once the goal went in in et all over.....

Definite free at the end for Meatb but it was a disgrace to let Tyrone score and equalise at the end of normal time. Big opportunity missed for Meath.
The ref was very poor for both sides - how's he on the referees panel is beyond me. I thought Ben Brennan, O'Sullivan and McEntee were all superb but that's probably the last we'll see of Stoney and Biggy in Meath shirts.

Very poor officiating, and TBH, slot of decisions did go against meath. He also did not appear to know, how to use the advantage rule. It looked a penalty all day long. There's not alot between any of the teams outside, Dublin, Kerry, Mayo, Galway. Pity they didn't close it out, being a leinster team, and the poo, wrote about leinster championship!!

Anyone see what happened in middle of stand after final whistle? Seemed to be a bit of an incident

That's why a win tonight was so vital and why it is so frustrating that we could not win despite Tyrone trying to hand it to us.
Tyrone were vulnerable, but we cannot buy a win of note at the moment.

To be fair when we went 5 points down in extra time we looked dead and buried, but showed great heart to get it back to one. The problem was it should have never gone to extra time to begin with.

Surely we should have had a penalty for the foul on O'Sullivan and not merely a free in normal time? The referee was really poor and that's not the first time I've said that watching one of our games. I thought we were lucky that Tyrone weren't out of sight by half time, our defence seemed all over the place. That said I thought Flanagan's fielding was excellent and we were much better in the second half. It's frustrating and heart breaking as a Meath fan to be out at this stage of the Championship, but I don't doubt the lads gave it their all.

Ref was poor throughout and Tyrone would not have been happy with him if they lost either so whilst that last decision will be debated, the fact is that we cannot blame the referee.

Once we scored the point to go 1 up with little time left, we had to close it out and we failed to do so.

Defensively we were cut open so I do not know why we are bringing so many lads back into defence just for the sake of it. You have to have a system where if you bring guys back, that they know what they are doing, its no use just standing there hoping something will happen.

A win tonight would have given everyone a lift and now its just back to square one.

Depressing.
