Is Leinster Football Dead And Buried?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Please ignore Kerry 1-32 to Limerick 0-05. The next time they meet at senior level, this result (and the fact that Limerick have never beaten Kerry at any level in living memory) will have no bearing on the outcome at all. Limerick will be supremely confident that they can win in the ultra competitive Munster football championship.

The Limerick senior footballers will not fear Kerry one bit and will fancy their chances against an untested young kerry side. Kerry have always struggled against Limerick and very nearly got caught on several occasions but not quiet of course. A lot of good footballers in the Limerick hurlers side too mind and sure if only they were playing football you'd never know what would happen. Anyway , sure a couple of points is all that'll be in it either way at the end and the bounce of a ball will probably decide it or maybe not.

Exactly, and Cork are well behind Kerry and are mainly interested in Hurling.
Thanks for pointing that out.

This cork U20 team only lost out by a point to Kerry after extra time in Tralee a couple of years ago, this Cork U20 team are not well behind our Kerry U20 team an U20 team without our two minor winning captains of the last 2 years.

Some cheat shots against Limerick football here. If those posters knew what Limerick footballers were up against from underage up to and including Senior level, they might understand why they have no chance when they go up against the likes of Kerry.

The point is Munster football, much like Leinster is uncompetitive. You can go into the reasons if you want why Limerick are uncompetitive. It is superfluous to the argument but knock yourself out.

Yes. There is something that hasn't been tried yet in football that may work as it has worked in hurling.

Put Dublin into Munster as a trial. Open draw. Dublin home to Kerry/Cork or away to Kerry/Cork in the 1st or semi final would do the heart good rather than watch these teams go out and whip some division 3 side black and blue. Yes Tipp, Clare, Limerick and Waterford may feel aggrieved, but its not as if they are going to miss out on a munster title any time soon. Besides, tipp and Clare are both division 2 teams anyhow.

If cork or Kerry were to meet the Dubs away in this provincial trial, it would mean that the fixture they play Dublin in later in the year, (super 8s) would be a home tie for them. Conversely, if they drew the provincial game at home, they would meet the dubs in Croke park later in the year. It would level out any argument against Dublin having an unfair advantage over other counties in the super 8 stage at Croke park.

It would also give both Dublin and Kerry, and also Cork, a bit of much needed action in the early summer. Their supporters are keen to get it and we often hear the arguments of a team not properly tested going into quarter finals and getting beaten.

Meanwhile back in Leinster, Meath, Kildare, Laois, Westmeath, Carlow, Longford etc would all have huge aspirations to win their province. It could give the province a much needed shot in the arm and lift moral. It would also free up Croke park for a few extra fixtures if needed later in the year, as the Croke park residents association would not have an argument against replays or even pop concerts being held in July or august.

Look at the Galway experience in hurling after they moved into Leinster. The Dublin supporters would love to go on the road too. Train to Cork, Killarney or Thurles. This is win win.

The minus of this would be a big fish going in the back door early if they were to draw each other in the early provincial rounds. But this is also a non argument, as Tyrone, Monaghan, Mayo, Kildare, (all division one this year) went into the back door early in the series. It hasn't done the championship any harm, in fact it has done it much good with some great games.

This would be a very interesting experiment. But I wonder would the will be there among the big players to try it out?

One thing is for sure, the system is not sustainable as it stands. And it is set to get much worse if things are left go.

Everybody knows Kerry have had Munster to themselves since day one. All the others are out and out hurling counties.

What's your point? Good chance Dublin won't win either of the u17 or u20 Leinster championship this year this will not be the case with Kerry in Munster. Underage in Leinster far more competitive than munster

Replying To TheUsername:  "I think that's a bit insulting to Kildare mate, Kildare travelled in huge numbers to the Leinster final last year, I was at the game the split was about 60/40 in my opinion. You are doing Kildare support a massive disservice in my opinion. I think when there is a fair wind, Kildare are probably one of the best supported counties in the country, equally Meath come to think of it. I think most at that game expected a Dublin win, but bar playing Mayo it was the only really competitive game Dublin played last year in my opinion.

No other Leinster team has come close to Winning a Leinster since 2014? No team in the country has won an All Ireland either, if accusations are to be made you need to make sure, you are not guilty of the same crime.

No Leinster team, has come close to winning an all Ireland only Dublin, no county in Connacht, Munster or Ulster has beyond Mayo, Kerry, Tyrone or Donegal. Again many counties guilty of the same crime.

I've no idea who will make the S8s, I'm excited to see how Loais and Carlow get on I think both would fancy there chances it really depends on the luck of the draw. Kildare and Meath have talent on their day, to be honest I don't really know, I wouldn't be afraid of many going through the qualifier route. It's hypothetical, I think some provinces are easier to advance in then others.

I don't feel the need to separate Dublin from Leinster, we are a Leinster team, we are proud to be a Leinster team, we represent Leinster, if other provinces think their province is stronger, the onus is on them to prove it, that something every county representing their province has failed to do since 2014.

I'd acknowledge some traditional Leinster teams our lower then their historical benchmarks, but as this weekend proves the spirit of the GAA is alive and well with great evidence of development in many historically undeveloped counties.

I think in reality Leinster is on a par with anywhere, bar the few big fish.

I find your post ironic in the sense, should Connacht really be speaking down to any Provence in terms of achievements or success, it's hardly been pulling its weight for a few decades in football in terms of bringing any silver ware west.

You talk of success as "putting it up to Dublin" it's not, it's ultimately failure, Dublin are a Leinster team, we represent Leinster.

If Galway win the All Ireland this year, I hope you would think the represent Connacht, there was a lovely moment after Roscommon won the Div 2 final in the curtain raiser to Div 1, were he wished Galway and Connacht luck in the Div 1 final, see were I'm coming from."
Would be a bit of craic from a sporting perspective.

But i could see the Leinster council fighting tooth and nail to hang on to Dublin they are a massive revenue driver.

You can swallow what ever you want bud , but the fact is we won the Munster U21 championship last year and it was the first time we did that in about 8 years , cork and tipp winning all the rest. Not bad for a hurling county eh?

Under 20 championship

Kerry 3-22
Waterford 0-1

The 79 times champions (80 after tonight) have a lot of worries with the direction the Leinster championship is heading.

You couldn't make it up.
