Loughnane says energy gone from Tipperary

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Comment by Ger Loughnane at 1/2 time in Cork/Tipp when Cork were were leading by about 9 points: "end of of Game for Tipp , end of current Tipp team, too many old players or players who have done too much hurling and legs are gone" paraphrase , per , Tipp too old, legs gone, they are finished.

A fierce second half comeback by Tipp with gamer ending in a draw..

1/2 time comment by Michael Duignan: "Some (of pundits ) have said (Tipp) have no energy, well they have energy now."

My comment at end of game: How can anyone whio claims to know hurling ever make a comment like Ger made at 1/2 time. ( He pitifully tried to laugh it off at the end of second half).

I for one will never again take Ger seriously.
Time to evaluate and upgrade our pundits, starting with Mr. Loughnane..

Pundits are wafflers and never pay much attention to them.
Mind you when you look at the way Tipp played in the first half you wouldn't give the a snowballs chance.

Are blue suits mandatory for the Sunday Game panel today or is it a coincidence?

A mhic, Loughnane turned into the George Hook of hurling years ago; round about the time he imploded as the Galway manager in fact.

I don't know which surprises me more; the fact that people pay him for his punditry or that listeners take anything he says seriously.

Ger is a bit of an embarrassment I was only thinking at the start of the match about how stale and tired the panel is. Hurling is a pretty unique game, a really tight match could in a few minutes leave one team at the end of a hiding. A team finding it hard to get into their stride (like Tipp first half) can suddenly look like champions after a few scores. Ger was free and easy with his analysis at HT and it really is very hard to take what he says with any kind of respect.

Good point ,worth noting, thanks!
The pundit game is probably as competitive as being 25th man on the panel.
Sensationalism brings attention., as in how do you like that Joe Brolly?

yeah deffo, the funny thing is i enjoy the likes of jj delaney and jamesie o connor on sky much more.
the only problem being,i am nearly always pulling pints when they are doing their analysis!
shefflin is good, sheedy is ok at best, cyril is well cyril (it would be lesser without him).
i actually really enjoy dalo and ken mcgrath.

but for me,the replacement for micheal o'muircheartaigh is staring rte in the face, tommy walsh is the closest thing to him i have came across...

I could listen to Tommy Walsh all day. He could turn an Under 6 match in to a thrilling contest on the radio.

Tommy 'The Tonic' Walsh. Guaranteed to cheer anyone up. Whatever Off The Ball are paying him it's not enough.

Tipperary for a fine team and much of those guys have two All-ireland medals. I think what is happening here is teams are figuring them out, when you look at other teams in past 304 years they have undergone significant changes.

Both Waterford and Wexford have changed their tactical approach to great success.
Galway have invested heavily in size and power which allowed their hurling ability to come out.
Kilkenny have adopted a shorter game with more running to suit their new look team.
I could go on...

In the point I am trying to make is, and is the same issue with Clare is that it is too samey and teams are wise to it. Introducing new blood is always a positive sign of course but sometimes you approach needs to change too to facilitate different types of players.

They are underdogs in the hurling world!

Have to say, when Limerick do well in the Championship it generally tends to be a good summer. They bring something extra. Like Clare in the 90's. Wexford have the ability to do the same. Probably something to do with the supporters - modestly fanatical

Tipp out of the hurling Championship by the 10th of June

Maybe Loughnane wasn't the fool after-all!

Good point full back. Tactics constantly change and evolve in all team sports. Rugby is a classic example of this.

We went long and direct in 2016 with a dash of the diagonal balls that worked so well under O'Shea. Now we just seem to go long and direct and if our forwards don't win primary possession it is coming straight back at us.

I think teams are trying to get their head around Limerick because they are so fresh and new this year with the likes of Flanagan and Gillane in the full forward line.

This summer has alot of similarities with 1955. Tipperary didn't make the Munster final after getting knocked out by Clare who also knocked out Cork I think. Limerick came with a very young fast team ' Mick Mackey's greyhounds' and took an unbackable Clare team to the cleaners in the Munster final. Wexford won the All Ireland that year beating Limerick in a good final.
