I was at an under 20 game Friday night when a Tyrone player took a free which landed on the top of the post. The umpire picked up his flag and awarded the point the refereee duly noted the point.
I couldn't believe my eyes as the rule states the whole ball must be over the bar and over the post is wide.
This referee is on the inter county panel of linesmen for the championship and has refereed a national league final at division 4.

How can the gaa appoint a man who blatantly didn't know the rule.
No linesmen intervened to communicate with the official either, so it looks like there was 7 officials who didn't know this basic rule in charge of the Monaghan Tyrone game Friday night last.
