Best Free Takers In Football

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Leitrim's own Emlyn Milligan is the best free taker in Ireland. It's a pity he doesn't get the exposure at a national level as the likes of a Dean Rock or a Cillian O'Connor does because by any standard he is outstanding from a placed ball. In my eyes he is the best, and I am sure that if people coukd see him knocking them over from all angles and distances they would agree too. Just this year we will sadly (unless we win on saturday) see Emlyn perhaps have two more outings this season in the Leitrim colours and neither on TV - whereas Rock, Beggan, O'Connor etc. will be far more high profile throughout the season.

Speaking about him playing against Clontibret, he got a point from play against us in the league last year!"

You're right my bad sorry,
Seen a video of that once actually was glad to see it as it doesn't happen too often,
Still young too so has a fair career ahead of him

Have to agree with you , I'm sure there are plenty of super kickers throughout the country that will never nor have got credit for what they can do , again it's back to tv coverage, for a sport that claims to be for the people only the higher up the ladder is shown , pity..

Actually think his father was better. And Brian Stafford? Ahh come on them two were the greatest free takers of all time. And from the ground.

I remember my late father coming home from a minor game and saying he had seen the greatest free taker he has ever seen, he said he was a young ginger haired lad by the name of Barney rock. That coming from a man who watched Meath (and lot of other counties) in the 20s 30s as a young lad. I watched him many times against Meath. And apart from Stafford I don't think I have ever seen a cleaner hitter of the ball. Don't get me wrong, rock jr is a excellent free taker, just Barney and Brian were majestic at it. And not from hands. If one rule was to change I'd love to see frees only been allowed from ground. It was a art form and I admire young rock as he takes a fair bit from ground.

Brian Sheehan. None of the current crop including Dean Rock are as good and likely to be as good.

I'm very much aware that this Carlow team is anything but a one man show, but in reply to this thread, "Best Free Takers In Football" and in particular to todays performance, in my opinion, that man Paul Broderick is the most, complete, confident, and prolific, free taker I have ever seen, not alone that but he is also a quality player, top drawer stuff.

He was brilliant yesterday, but he had an off day in the League final. The best free takes don't have off days like that! I do love to watch him as a footballer though, real classy. Almost looked like Gooch at times yesterday.

Point taken,he may have had an off day in the league final, who knows he may have aggravated an old injury, pulled a muscle, muscle spasm as happened Brendan Murphy just before H/T. either way I never said he was perfect as no sports man is no matter who they are, but to me Paul Broderick is the best I have ever seen, and I'v seen a lot

Sean Quigley, even Cluxton said he was the best. Hes from the team that plays in green up north.

This championship- Mark Jackson Wicklow goalkeeper. 10 kicks. 9 Points.

4 league games. 0-19.

So 6 inter county games this year 6 games 0-28. Not bad for a goalkeeper just turned 20.

Northern Ireland national team?? In fairness i have always admired Quigley - an absolute natural talent, maverick andpp an enigma if ever there was one. He just the x-factor
