I thought it was unbelievable the abuse mansy got when taking his free beside the stand and the Tyrone support. I don't mean this to be a slaging match on one set of supporter's as every county has a few like this. The dubs on the hill witch sounds like a band at times. I just think these guys need more respect as they are not professional at the end of the day. mon07 (Monaghan) - Posts: 139 - 23/05/2018 21:49:04 2103397 Link 3 |
I personally don't boo free takers. It's the mob mentality though...a few do it and many more join in especially if the free is deemed soft. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11230 - 23/05/2018 22:18:11 2103403 Link 0 |
Monaghan supporters jeered and gave abuse to Niall Morgan when he kicked a free. Roared stuff at Tiernan McCann and Cathal McCarron when they were substituted. This could have prompted the Tyrone supports to return the favour, while McManus kicked his frees shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1928 - 24/05/2018 00:11:22 2103425 Link 0 |

agree,i hate the disrespect for free takers and tell people around me to shut up when i hear them,i thought the booing of liam rushe was disgraceful on sunday, even if he had grabbed liam ryans faceguard a minute earlier. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 24/05/2018 09:48:00 2103464 Link 0 |

If it is personal abuse I totally agree but I'd hate to be looking at the silence you get in rugby for score-able frees. That's not to slag off whole the "respect thing" in rugby. How they have players at all levels respecting the officials is fantastic and is something I would love to see in our games. However all these sunshine fans shushing people so sky sports will comment on their reverence and respectfulness wreck my head. Not to mention the clowns who was to silence the pub too out of respect for the kicker. I remember Colin Corkery kicking some monster scores into Hill 16 which was going bananas chanting, clapping, waving flags, roaring abuse too I am sure. Seeing Corkery take it all in his stride and calmly drop the ball over the bar only heightened the satisfaction and made the moment so much more memorable. Kicking a crucial free in to an opposition terrace is special I wouldn't like to lose that. Peter the Great's winner in the 2005 semi final when the noise was deafening was another incredible moment. I suppose a terrace chanting in unison is ok you don't hear individual comments. Guys getting abuse when taking a sideline can be more personal. To be honest I don't hear too much of that down here. Usually decent supporters will shut a loud mouth up if he is out of order. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 337 - 24/05/2018 10:00:10 2103467 Link 1 |

You are some boyo. Is there any other thread you can shoehorn in a pop at Mayo?

You can't paint us all with the same brush but the worst treatment I've seen by supporters is Galway fans booing their own goalkeeper as he took kickouts.Disgraceful behaviour

I believe booing is not what anyone of you supporters of our games would do when a player is taking a free. You should not tolerate it from those around you either and let them know your feelings. With watching our games for 60 years I have experienced on many occasions, a last minute free with the teams level and a pin could be heard dropping in the crowd.
