Limerick Vs Tipperary

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Limerick lorded it in the air yesterday and Tipp showed little real appetite for battle.
Looks like Tipp don't know their best team and will need to get it together against an improving Cork... if not they are in bother.

That is 2 games back to back where Tipp were outfought and that must be a serious concern for Michael Ryan.

Hard to follow why he did not speak to the media after the match.

Limerick were the best team on view last weekend. Tipp couldn't cope with the Limerick workrate and aggression. Cork will have to match that.

Replying To icehonesty:  "Limerick need to find a full-back. But for Hickey, Limerick would have won by 10 and been out of sight with 15 to go. There are certainly better options available to Limerick in Casey or even McCarthy who'd have done more. Other than that Limerick are really building something good. I especially liked the capability of Mulcahy and Gillane to win ball inside.

Tipperary are in big trouble. They don't have a full back line. They don't have a midfield. Despite Michael Ryan's best efforts, very few of the new players brought in over the last two seasons have measured up to the standard of the established guys. I really like Hogan in goal. Heffernan at wing back is solid, Forde has cememted a place at full-forward. Donagh Maher has been good but was poor yesterday. Other than that I don't feel that McCarthy, Connors, Mooney, Flynn, Hamill, Russell, O'Brien, Feehan, Darcy, Shanahan have come in to any effect. McCarthy did win some ball yesterday in fairness to him.

Tipp's best team is probably:
Hogan,
Barrett, P Maher, Cahill
Heffernan, R Maher, Kennedy
B Maher, M Breen
Bonnar, N McGrath, Bubbles
J McGrath, Forde, Callinan

If they can get that team on the field, with no more than two missing (to be replaced by Dan McCormack or Donagh Maher) they could win the All-Ireland.

If they can't get that team on the field and have more than two or three missing, they're in big trouble and won't win Munster or the All-Ireland.

And if they can't win either, Mick Ryan will be out of a job."
I would agree with your comments on Limerick needing to find a full back. Hickey is good driving out of defence but makes too many needless fouls like jumping into the back of Jason Forde. He must've done that three or four times on Sunday. Mike Casey is the Treaty's no. 3 in waiting. Ritchie McCarthy would be a great back up option.

I was baffled the approach that was taken in the league with chopping and changing and moving players to different positions. Breen corner forward, Barrett midfield, Willie connors being brought onto the panel and atraight into the team and then move to midfield yesterday.
Ryan has a lot to answer for and has a huge task now to finish in the top 3 in Munster. Looks very unlikely at this stage,

Tipp reached the League final with all that "chopping and changing". Kilkenny (who won the final) done more chopping and changing than Tipp. Although let's see how they fare against Galway this weekend.

The league, for a lot of counties, is used to try different players and tactics, before the Championship starts. Tipp have lost one game in what is going to be a fiercely contested Munster Championship.

That said, The comments from Henry Shefflin and Jamies O'Connor and many others were pretty scathing of Tipp's performance. Michael Ryan's media farce made things far worse.

tiobraid, You'll know the state of things in Tipp far better than me. This is a huge kick up arse to Tipp, but they have time, quality of players and the games to at least qualify for the knock-outs. Next up - Cork :)

Bye the way, Let's not take anything away from Limerick, I think they could be the surprise team this year, I backed them to beat Tipp on Sunday and also have them backed, E/W to win the All-Ireland; for what it's worth.
