Replying To nobull456:  "Agreed ......... We need to invest in developing Managers rather than "taking a chance" on an inexperienced manager. I suggest the county board should show real leadership here by being pro active and installing this as a standard policy for present and future managers at intercounty level. Not rocket science to identify and establish the skill set required for modern day manager.. No manager will be made to measure for the job anyway ,so a willingness to accept this development is a condition of employment. Skills acquired during this development are easily transferable to ordinary life including employment so their is a gain there for the man who puts in massive hours at "training" his team. To extend this" education and development" theme to players may assist with retention levels. Sport involving good coaching is good quality education. Look at the many skills required to be part of a close knit group with a common objective .These very valuable skills that again are easily transferable for players to other .key areas of life in general.so a gain there for players also. I really do believe well coached sports players have an advantage . They need it explained to them properly of course of how these developed skills can benefit their employment prospects for example. It is sad to hear a recently departed player talk about a "waste of his time" unless silverware was achieved.
I hope Andy hangs in there and benefits from the county board being pro active by thinking outside the box with fresh modern day thinking where nobody is seen as wasting their time when given the massive honour of representing a county with a proud footballing tradition. We are not gone yet if we face reality by really INVESTING by development. Money is not the stumbling block it is often made out to be The real stumbling block is lack of vision at co. board level."
That is a excellent message Nobull456 above. 110% correct. I wish our county was more pro active then re active..More outward looking and forward planning. Setting standards off the field in planning and underage. That we are not following what kerry Tyrone or Dublin are doing ten years ago at underage Be modern , innovative and thinking outside the box. It doesnt have to cost money. A pro active county board not a one waiting quietly and silently for the crisis to happen.

Replying To grahamc9897:  "To be honest I can't really argue with you,you do make a lot of good points! I'm willing to give you the benifet of the doubt!! But you made points about Boylans first couple of years was a disaster but then plenty of Meath legends came along to change the ball game ! No one is there that is going to improve this team..I fear more walkways to be honest !"
1 point Boylan first years were tough but the players didnt come along to change the ball game. Lyons McEntee O Rourke Hayes Cassells and many more were playing when we lost to Wexford in 81 longford 82 and laois 85. Under Boylans genius ability to build teams they became great players. It just years to build up their confidence and belief. Without Boylan I have a feeling we could be still on 3 All Irelands.

Anyway Graham we will agree to disagree. I respect what you say, we both want the same thing a sucessful Meath team.

I have to say I should really apologise I did come onto forum an hour or two after the match after an awful defeat telling people we should give the manager two more years. Peoples emotions were running high and I should have left it for a while. I kind of drove the forum a bit mad for a while. I apologise for that. And my tendency to go back down memory lane is probably more a feeling to remember good days and block out the current bad days.

We all want a successful Meath back where we belong. We all sleep eat drink Meath football and we all want what is best for the county. Hopefully the minors have shown the way forward for An Mhi. An Mhi Abu. Meath leinster Champions 2021.

Replying To Ashrules:  "If truth be told Longford did not deserve to win. Even though Meath were not up to expectations which remain high and why not? The referee handed everything to home team. As well as above mentioned instances when Longford players were on advantage and kicked wide ball was brought back, But not so for Meath players clearly fouled but trying to carry on anyway.

When Meath played Tyrone in Omagh under MOD not so long ago Referee handed home team a penalty for Mc Cann diving and within minutes denied Meath an obvious penalty when Joey Wallace brought down. Meath outplayed them that Day but were robbed.

Interesting to see Meath at last get a home match. This is very winnable for Meath. Colm Cooper said Home advantage was worth 5 points with influence on referee. He was actually conservative in his calculations."
Ashrules , Longford deserved the win , what's surprising is the level of anti ref sentiment emanating from Meath . Longford won , ref wasn't brilliant , but he was no worse than other refs in truth . We allow other teams to bully us "FACT" . We will never get anywhere with that passive attitude . Every team in Ireland know our temperament is syspect . At this level it's just not good enough .

Yeah would broadly agree, I didn't think the ref was great now and he did make some hairy calls but what ref doesn't nowadays, we just didn't have that intensity when needed at the start of the second half and let Longford dictate the play, that coupled with key forwards letting themselves down and a slowness on the sideline to make changes were the real culprits in us losing the game. Lessons to be learnt and can be learnt, Tyrone are not the fearful beast they once were and with players missing and a lot of pressure on them also we might, with a much improved display, be able to rattle them and the fact that we are at home is a big plus. If it is to be the last Meath championship match in the old Pairc before redevelopment than by God I hope we give it a decent send off, a large vocal crowd would be a considerable help also.

Not good enough in any shape or form. Call yourself a County Board Official. Time to cop on Mr Meath Untrue

Sifting through the wreckage, trying to find the positives and I can't find any. Shambolic performance on Sunday but the writing was on the wall for some time. Desperate league results and players opting off the panel etc.

Well that's lies. I have full faith in Andy restoring our proud record v Tyrone prior to mod , on sat. All we need now is to draw Westmeath in next round. And let's forget that the worst ic manager of ALL TIME, was ever allowed near the Meath set up.

I agree with Ya on Boylan furlong his strength was picking the right players to play for him and meath.
I don't think this manager is doin or capable of doin this. You need a family camp with a honesty in that group. Allowing them express them selfs with NO FEAR. This to me is our down fall rubbish system been played by lads that doesn't suit them.you can't keep everyone happy but the amount that left has to b questioned and sooner rather than later.if he staying he needs help will he try to acquire that can't see it.
Tyrone game is his time now to really show us has he anything about him or not.i hope he has but I've lost faith a while ago now.
Be great to see us with that bit of ignorance and grit, talent,Giles Murphy Geraghty roll back the years. Here's with fingers crossed hoping

Now that the excitement has died down and reality is beginning to bite regarding our game on Sunday, I just want to say one thing before I close.

I brought my nephew (6) to the longford v meath game. He's Jonny Sexton and leinster mad. However after the game, he now wants Longford gear for his birthday, which I'm delighted about. It was is first longford game.

What made it was the supporters, and by that I mean I was surrounded by meath supporters, where I was situated. I was at other games in the past, where things get heated in the moment, and I include myself in that.

However I was genuinely struck by the graciousness of your supporters, the good humour and at no point did I hear anyone say anything derogatory about Longford etc. Educated football supporters. I know it was a tough day to be a meath supporter but The whole experience was great for me never mind the nephew.

The hope is now, that we don't freeze in the headlights and give it a lash (against those whose name we cannot mention)!!!

Tks again lads, and I do honestly think your summer isn't over after next weekend!!...i think there will be a reaction!!

You are very welcome. It was nice to have genuine gaa football mad people, who appreciated their win. Like I said to men and women around me, go on and beat those who we must not mention, I shook as many hands as I could.
Best wishes for the future, and if there is a god both Meath and longford win at the weekend, what a kick up the backside would that give hq? Anyway good luck.
