Goalkeeping Coach

(Oldest Posts First)

How's it going to all here. I'm not a Wexford man, but am a big, big hurling fan. I was a bit shocked today to see that Mags D'arcy Was appointed goalkeeping coach. I was of the opinion that Davy had appointed Noel Considine from Clarecastle as goalkeeping coach, and I have it on good authority that Considine took the session with the goalies last night in Buffers Alley alone. There doesn't seem to be any official statement from Wexford County Board or Davy about this, everything seems to be coming from Mags herself. I know it's national women's week and it's a good story, but it really is a strange appointment if you ask me.
Anyone got any thoughts on the matter?

I don't know how she got involved or how involved she is. Its just one of those stories to say look how progressive we are and the press will keep promoting it because it gets clicks on their websites. She might give a hand but your right about the other man being the goalkeeping coach.

Great to have Mags D'Arcy on board with the Wexford hurling team. Mags is one of those people that oozes passion for her county and bleeds purple and gold. She is also a top quality coach and will bring a huge knowledge to the table for Wexford.

Well she has been on the field on matchdays doing the warm ups and prep work with the keepers, so its not just a token gesture. I dont get why some think she cant be a good coach?

James I can only guess my comment is one of those you are referring to.

I made no judgment on Mags as a coach. My criticism was more of newspapers using it as clickbait

Personally I don't have anything against this goalkeeping coach but I think long term Davy could have got this move wrong.I hope Davy proves me wrong.

I fully agree that Mags Darcy is an excellent camogie goalkeeper. She has represented her club and county with distinction for many years.
I know nothing of her abilities as a coach but her playing experience alone would suggest she has plenty to offer.
What I don't understand is why she is joining the coaching set up with the hurlers when we already have a goalkeeping coach in place.
Also she has said that she hasn't ruled out returning to the county camogie set up when she recovers from injury. If this is the case why would she want to
get involved in the hurling coaching set up?
