Eoin Doyle Sending Off

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I doubt a player would get sent off for this in a big game in Croker, seems a harsh 2nd booking to me, I see fellas getting away with dangerous tackles at times but because they have been booked already the ref lets it go, not an easy job being a ref but sometimes you'd wonder if they are up to the job at all, easy being the hurler on the ditch though.

Ref not getting much support from either sports programme on the radio tonight, rightly so. Nice to see that he didn't let common sense get in the way of the rules. Something tells me he wouldn't have booked Doyle if he had realised he had already booked him previously. Had to follow through then.

Sounds to me like two sides of stupidity, Doyle should've had the cop on to do what he was told and the ref being a typical big man could have handled it better.
As for the insurance industry please give us all a break.

My own take on it is that Gough was loosing patience with having to tell players this too many times and made a call to yellow card Kelly and let him know that he wasn't going to let him take the mickey.
Didn't intend to send him off but got his wires crossed and left himself no option.
It is annoying while being the rule considering some of the stuff that is allowed to go unpunished.

It seems Doyle was told more than once to get his gumshield ref had no choice but to give him a yellow, why? He didn't do as a ref asked, the same as refusing to move back for an opponents free, I remember hearing a story of a player getting a straight red for saying to the ref 'are you going to give us a free at all today' the reason for the red was abuse to an official. At the end of the day the refs job is to ref the game, it's stupidity by the players when they get booked, Doyle has nobody to blame but himself

He was doing as the ref asked but the ball was played in his direction as he left the field and he instinctively played it. I don't know many players who would let it roll by their feet. Silly to book him for it, and then he couldn't send him off without making a hames of it!

Imagine if he had ignored It & Donegal had scored from the play...you can imagine the posts on here....'Kildare bottlers as always. They'll never win anything when you see their captain blatantly ignoring the ball when it was played near him. Disgraceful.'

He was warned to get a gum shield and decided to play on.

At this level the mind boggles.

It's got nothing to do with levels. No player will let a ball harmlessly roll past him. If he did i wouldn't want him on my team.

The Kildare manager seems to be a dreadful whinger. He'd want to lose that, before he'll make any progress at the game he's in. They score a paltry SEVEN points, and he's on TV whinging about refs and gumshields. Until Kildare find the formula for converting possession into scores, and reduce that seemingly ever-present big wide count, they'll be vulnerable. It's always been a cows and banjos issue in Kildare football imo, and gumshieldgate is just the latest diversion from reality.

Even of he was ordered off to get a gum shield? Knowing full well what the punishment is? And already on a yellow?

Can you remember the last time anyone was booked for that? I doubt Doyle could either.

First I had heard of it and the vast majority of people speaking about it seemed to be surprised at it too. It's not as if the ref was such an expert either as it turned out.

There were numerous players on both teams in the Mayo/Dublin match not wearing gum shields yet the ref took no action. I watch a lot of football and Sunday was the first time I saw a referee take action regarding a player not wearing his gum shield.
