I'm afraid you set yourself up for that. Fr_Tod

Unfortunately Galway rarely rampage, just hope we can keep it it competitive on Sunday.
From the match I saw on TG4, Monaghan were up by 6 at half time and it could have 10 really. Just thought they gave ye a footballing lesson for the first 50 minutes. Even with a man down Monaghan never looked like losing

An interesting fixture this one. It will tell a tale or two, more so about Galway.

The players weren't in the right frame of mind as a group and clearly didn't believe they could win, surely you'd agree that is down to the manager?

A far worse Galway team got far closer to arguably a better Kerry team in 2014 and gave a far better performance. Kerry were their to be beat last July but Galway didn't perform and the picking of a player to man mark Donaghy was a disaster. It was unfair on the player as he's no way near a inter county player at this level who looked out of his depth everytime he played last year, that is also the managers fault.

This is a decent panel Walsh has and at a good age too, along with there's plenty of good underage talent who'll make the step up over the next few years.

Walsh can't afford another championship like the last 2 where we've suffered 3 disastrous defeats, I like Walsh as person as he's a real decent man and a true Galway great so its nothing personal. I just hope we have a really good summer.

I have no complaints about us losing the game as Monaghan were the better team in the first half and as it turns they were the better team over all, we usually start games very fast but the last day we just weren't tuned in and it took us ages to get to the pace of the game, the fact the we were missing our 4 midfielders ( jack Barry Barry O'Sullivan David Moran and Anthony Maher) also didn't help as we ended up with a wing back and a wing forward playing in that specialized position.

On the day we gave away some sloppy kickouts and soft frees that were all punished and fair play to Monaghan for that, but the second half we were hands down the better side and we got it back to 1 point twice but just couldn't get level.

As for Monaghan only having 14 men as you say, well that's nothing to do with us, that's for malachy O'Rourke to sort out, the evidence was there for all to see and they were only a man down for about 8-10 minuets anyway.

It's a breezy kind of a morning down here in the south west but it's dry so we'll give thanks for that. We haven't had rain in nearly a week so the ground should be hopping. Hopefully the wind won't effect the game too badly.

This game and the Dublin game will indicate how Galway footballers are progressing. Galway have been good to date, but playing the 2 best teams will test their ability.
It is good to see a strong Galway emerging in Connacht.
I hope today is a good game, and Galway are not overawed by Kerry.

Fair play to Galway, they could have crumbled and didn't.

Lovely stuff, though going from 6 points up in the third quarter to 3 points with all that extra time added was a little more than my nerves could take. Did 1 secured for next year, onwards and upwards!

I will differ from my fellow Corofin man and say that based on league form this year, though we haven't played them yet, I feel Dublin is the only team clearly ahead of us. And I think Monaghan will be a real challenge too. Mayo have shown nothing new this year and with no new players to add something to them, they definitely seem to be on the wane.

You're placing too much of your analysis on the league, which means little to nothing come championship time.

Galway are definitely improving but by how much won't be known until May and further on in the Summer.

Congratulations to Galway ye absolutely hammered us more than the 3 points would suggest, ye have some great footballers and a great structure to yer team.

We have a lot of problems in our back line.

Well done Galway, thought we'd win this one but was wrong.
Salthill maybe for the super 8 in July.

Definitely a few miles of Dublin, but saying that they are miles of Mayo is beyond crazy. They are twice the Team than Mayo at the Moment.
You really hurt my head!

Yup. I know it's February, the league, etc. etc., it's also all we have to go on as the games you're basing your opinion on happened months ago and while Dublin has continued to show good form, Mayo is having a bad league with no promise of anything new come summer. Will they be a different beast come summer? Probably. Will they have improved on last years performances; doesn't look like it. They're still relying on the same players who are all a year older.

This isn't an anti-Mayo rant, it's simple observation of all the current facts.

Could be an interesting summer, but I am a little worried that we've peaked this early in the year. But what do I know.

Galway have not peaked, so much to work on. The unforced error count is far too high. Mixed performance today really but nice to get the win.

Some teams have serious leagues like the rossies two years ago and fall off a cliff come the summer, Having said that Kevin Walsh was a hard tough midfielder and his team reflect that, along with their new defensive structure they will be hard to beat.
