It was pure abuse and i know it when i hear it. He got worse abuse than any Kildare player and they certainly weren't being critiqued as you call it! I never said there is any call for abuse and some of it is disgraceful but we all know that the vast majority of these assholes are cowards. It's a win/win/win situation. Paddy O'Rourke, Andy McEntee and Meath's senior inter-county team are all better off with him retired if he feels like that. This reminds me of how Ger Loughnane described his Clare team in the mid-90s. We may not have had the 15 most skillful hurlers in Clare but he had the 15 most committed. Paddy O'Rourke has to do what's good for him, and if that means quitting inter-county football then so be it. Best thing for everyone if he feels that he cannot commit fully. Undoubtedly the commitment levels are very high, and there are questions to answer about that but I think the 'Inter-County players are martyrs and indentured slaves' narrative is a little over done.
