Allianz League Sunday

I actually think this small section on Sunday night could be the making of Sean Cavanagh as a regular pundit/analyst for RTE.

This is partly due to Thomas, who made the whole thing look like a comedy sketch with his sullen face and dismissive attitude.

I have to admit i was a fan of Tomas O'Se in th e past he always comes across well and reasonably fair to whoever hes is analizing. Since last season he seems to have changed his attitude and turned to moaning just like the rest of them on that programme. Its becoming a pure joke of a programme. He has done that before where he rolls his eyes to heaven and just looks ridiculous

I thought Sean was very extremely happy looking and kept smiling which is understandable considering the recent success with the club but it looked a bit strange.

Probably got on Tomas nerves a bit and it showed with his cranky attitude throughout the show.

the longer lads are away from the game the thicker the rose tinted glasses become.

My point being - what has his comments on Kildare got to do with Tipp, Clare, Waterford or Limerick? By the sounds of it he was analysing Kildare and not other counties so why bring them into it?
RTE and TG4 provide a fantastic service for an amateur game.
People on here are complaining about no coverage for games in lower divisions where some games are doing extremely well to get 1000 people to go to. So why would our national broadcaster give these games much if any air time when the people of their own counties don't bother attending?"

Because they're supposed to be the 'National' broadcaster, not the broadcaster of the best attended games. We could be left with coverage of only Division One and potential Super 8 counties. Viewers in so-called weaker counties should have opportunity to see some TV coverage of their own counties.

Yeah really bad form from Cavanagh. Nothing worse than someone being happy and positive, typical Tyrone trying to make the Kerry lad look bad. Yerra I'm sure Tomás will overcome this latest adversity.

Im glad someone agrees with me.

One positive from Cavanagh however is that you and a few others on here could take a leaf out of his book and stop being such a grump most of the time.

It looked bad on Sunday night, Sean Cavanagh won't ever say a bad word about Tyrone even if 15 players stood on their own goal line for 70 mins he wouldn't say anything against Mickey Harte, as for Tomas O'Se that was bad form on his view about Kildare, if that's the best team in Leinster to put it up to Dublin then he makes a facial expression looking disgusted, his own county done nothing between mid 80s to mid 90s when Cork ruled Munster. At the end of the day it's mid February not July or August

If RTE can afford to spend who's know how much sending at least one sports journalist and 1-2 production crew to South Korea covering the winter Olympics, then they can very well afford to provide extensive coverage of the national leagues and run a midweek magazine style programme.

There are 6, yes 6 'Irish' athletes competing at the winter Olympics, there were hundreds of intercounty players playing at the weekend.

Why?
Football is England's national sport but there is no reason they should show Derby county on TV. I'd love to see Tipp footballers on TV but in reality there's very little proper interest in Tipp footballers from within the county so why would they be on TV?
People have to get real on this. If RTE put Waterford against Carlow on the highlights show....how many people would watch it? No disrespect to them but I'd probably go to bed and I'd consider myself a fairly big GAA supporter.
We have an excellent package as it stands when you consider the amount of games that are on

Replying To kildare73:  "1. Maybe you should actually look at his comments before you comment yourself. He didn't "analyse" the game at all. He picked a few missed kicks on a horrible day to comment on and then downed the county and province as a whole.
2. You were the one who introduced the stats, I just gave you one that gives the big picture rather than going back a couple of years like you did. O'Se derided what is next in Leinster to Dublin but doesn't have a problem with his own county and Cork dividing up Munster between them for a century.
3. I don't think too many here will agree with your assessment of RTE providing excellent coverage. It's pretty poor stuff. After the Dublin/Donegal game which they lauded, they went heavy on the incidents in the Galway/Mayo game and then only for Cavanagh being there, hadn't a decent thing to say about a pretty intense game in Newbridge, played in horrible conditions."
Regardless of if I seen it or not my point is that you criticise him for the exact same thing you done when you got a dig at the weaker counties in Munster. Something not right there!

Despite what people think...there are a lot of people in this country that have absolutely no interest in watching highlights of League games. I'm not one by the way but I bet if you if go in training the next night and ask how many players watched league sunday last sunday, you'll be surprised how little GAA people even watch it so why would RTE have cameras all over the country? The attendance figures at these lower league games are brutal too.

Are you serious? Did you watch the programme?

Sean spent quite a bit of time criticising Tyrone's game plan and said on several occasions that nobody wants to see Tyrone's most dangerous forward Lee Brennan playing in his own back line.

I don't think Sean was going to go over the top or go out of his way to directly criticise Mickey Harte on his first appearance as an analyst.

But seems to be a man of conviction and I think if he is given more air time he will not be shy about speaking the truth on how awful and self-defeating our game plan is.

Wally just want your opinion, would it be worth Tyrone losing playing this defensive style football ? Force Mickey Harte to change to a more offensive style.

Personally I would be sick to watch Kerry play the style of football that won us the 2014 final against Donegal.

If you watched what he said you would clearly be able to understand the point I'm making. He criticised Leinster, I merely held up a mirror to what his own province has been historically. Can't really throw stones in a glass house.
I'm not talking about having cameras at every game but it wouldn't hurt to cover div 2 and give the scores from other divisions but not a mention. Plus if O'Se is only interested in Dublin, Kerry and maybe Mayo, which he clearly displayed the other night I'm sure there are plenty of other people who could step in. Everyone could see how disinterested he was Sunday night. Nobody tunes in to see pissy attitudes and a sour face. They time in for proper analysis and somebody who's meant to know what he's talking about giving a decent critique. As someone said on here already, the rose tinted glasses get thicker the long away from the game you are. Fantastic player and all he was, he didn't get everything right either.

Woops,

I have preaching about this for years now. It would definitely be worth Tyrone being relegated and possibly exiting the Championship at an earlier stage for a few years, as long as we were able to redefine our approach to how we play and adopt a more attacking game plan.

It is just so horrible to watch and it serves no purpose apart from striping our very talented players of their instinctive attacking ability.

It seems that Mickey cannot be forced into anything and our weak county board will not do what needs to be done. We are unfortunately stuck in this situation to at least 2020 as Mickey was given a 3 year contract extension.

Just look at Donegal. They have no points on the board at this stage but they have taken part in 3 extremely entertaining games. They could very well still finish above us as they have already played Kerry who at this stage look like they would wipe the floor with us.

They have taken the correct attitude to the game and Declan Bonner obviously trusts his players. I have no doubt it will pay dividends for them in the long run.
