Jesus lad let's hope that's all that's wrong with Jamesy , I actually feel for the guy he had such bad luck with injuries fantastic player when he's fit would kill me to see him fall into the junior squad. Ah the usual crowd so , surrounded by the green and red a big boost for mayo Is the support as much as I hate to say it they are very good fans very passionate shame they can't beat Dublin in an all Ireland though. I'd be more worried about defence IMO I think they tend to get caught too easily on the hop . No doubt about it mayo will be out for blood on Saturday Cankylunt (Dublin) - Posts: 30 - 31/01/2018 18:14:00 2072864 Link 0 |
Well for numerous reasons we have very little chance of avoiding defeat on Saturday 37thHeaven (Kerry) - Posts: 102 - 31/01/2018 18:30:35 2072868 Link 0 |

I'd agree with most of the points in general but, but not to the same extent. Mayo have proven to be the second best team in the country over the last few years, but it's not by a massive margin as you said. On any given day, their games against Kerry could go either way. This is the league. Mayo tend to do just enough in the league and have mixed the good with the bad in Division 1 over the last few years. It also has to be remembered that their first team squad are just back into proper training, having had an extended break. I'd expect Mayo to shade it, but a Kerry win wouldn't surprise me at all. U forgot to mention that UFOs abducted a number of Kerry players on your lamenting post.

Mayo missing - Keegan, Vaughan, Barrett, Parsons, S O Shea , Higgins and many more , bigger names than Kerry are missing and Kerry are after winning 4 minor finals ,so they must have an endless supply of talent to call upon , so more of cute Kerry you know what culmore (None) - Posts: 1398 - 01/02/2018 11:34:50 2073042 Link 2 |
*A) Mayo are the 2nd best team in them country by a massive margin as evidenced last year and indeed the entire decade truth be told* I agree that Mayo are viewed as the #2 in Ireland - but by a Massive Margin? Took a replay to beat Kerry, and even then Kerry had the first encounter sewn up before they let Mayo back in. That was Mayo's first win in the Championship over Kerry since when? How did they fare relatively in the League last year? *B) Kerry are down 19 players and had a load of last Sunday's kids involved in Sigerson Cup this week, Even the Juggernaut would struggle with that let alone a humble, ordinary team like the Kingdom* Missing alot of guys alright, but sure Kerry are the county with the greatest footballing tradition, the highest pedigree and undoubtedly the best natural footballers. Humble, Ordinary they are not. *C) Our kids won't have faced anything like the ferocity of the Mayo gladiators, you can talk all day about it but until you experience it first hand it's impossible to know how to react to it* I'm sure the combination of Senior and Minor AI Medal holders will be well used to ferocious encounters, versus a team that has won zero silverware under the current management. *D) Away from home where there will be a ravenous home support, it's a trip to the Lions den for our Kids and like last point they'll never have faced such an intimidating crowd to deal with* McHale is no fortress, Mayo's home record is abysmal. I can never figure why, attendance puts every other county to shame. Of their last 11 home games in the League, Mayo are Won=4 Drew=1 Lost=6. With 2 of the 4 wins against teams that were relegated. Noone should fear Mayo in Castlebar with that record. *E) Last week we were lucky to squeeze through versus a young Donegal team who were down to 14 men for most of the match, this challenge will be on another stratosphere lets hope we give a good account of ourselves and not take a mentally scarring going forward* You are playing a team that just about scraped a one point win at the death, against a team that had 12 on the pitch. Hardly a mentally scarring exercise. All in all, the Yerr-O-Meter records a solid 9/10 for this post. Downplay of Kerry team - check, bigging up of opposition - check, obligatory Dublin reference - check. Honestly, no more than 2 points either way, a draw being more likely than usual. Kerry always find it tough against Mayo in the league and more often than not an away trip to Castlebar has always been an ardous task. woops (Kerry) - Posts: 2073 - 01/02/2018 12:39:34 2073066 Link 0 |
Jaden out home League form is nothing to right home about. In championship though we have only been beaten once at home in 10 years. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 01/02/2018 12:58:06 2073075 Link 1 |
I hope Fitzmaurice sticks to more or less the same side as last week. It will be interesting to see how the young lads get on away from home against one of the big teams. I think if we can shore up our defence we will put it up to Mayo. Cant see us winning it but a good all round performance will be good enough. I'm fully expecting a Mayo win, the pitch won't be in great shape which will make it more of a battle so will expect an older and more physical Mayo team to come out and top. JDF (Galway) - Posts: 322 - 02/02/2018 14:36:54 2073391 Link 0 |

This will be a great test for this young Kerry team,m i was really impressed with young O Shea last week he looks a gem. I wondered last week about the general physicality and strength of the Kerry team and i think this will be a good reckoner for them. I think the key will be getting the balance between the quality footballer they produce but also being able to match up to the physical side of the game. I actually fancy mayo to win this game. They will be looking at getting 4 points in the bag so as not to be struggling in fixtures later on. I also think that Kerry flattered a bit last week. yes they are a very young side, but the Donegal team that they played were a younger team than they are. Their inexperience could be shown up here but I would expect them to take a lot from the game. Mayo by about 4 or 5. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 03/02/2018 13:03:50 2073568 Link 0 |

I would agree, it could be years before some of these guy get near their potential. Many of our best youngsters are a bit light and I think if we have 5-6 of them in the team come the championship they could get blown away by the physicality of the better teams. They have serious football in them and great pace so we will see what happens. I think he has to take a chance and stick with them at this stage. If he puts the old guard back in and fails with them again he will be crucified.
