Mayo vs Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Saturday night games in Mayo are always an occasion, they are always great Craic.
This looks to be Match to keep an eye on.
Kerry should have Clifford starting each match, he will only get better which is kind of scary. Looking at the highlights last night Kerry seem to be able to tackle better and go man to man better than last year. Brendan O'Sullivan looked good in midfield
Sean O'Shea looked to be on a rampage, he definitely looks like a starter for each game now as he can open defences and score very well.
Mayo looked sloppy yesterday but they have more to learn from, they got stronger. Durcan's point at near the end was great. I think that Aiden O'Shea should be in full forward here with Evan Reagan and Diarmod O'Connor beside him. Think Conor Lotus should get a start as he could be a great option for Mayo come Summer.
Think it will be an interesting game. Reckon that Kerry will be winning by 3 or 5 points for half time but Mayo come out for a win.
Mayo 2+

This is going to be a very stern test for our young side. In retrospect, a lot of issues raised by Mayo's win in Tralee last February came back to haunt us in the replay in August.

Mayo are a big powerful side and they made us look like rag dolls in the replay. Clifford, Burns and O'Se will be up against some very big specimens so physically it will be a stern examination.

We also coincided a huge score yesterday so our defense really needs to firm up while we were in trouble at midfield when Barry didn't start. These are issues which plagued us last year and they have to be sorted out by the time the League ends.

We actually don't have a very good record against Mayo in the League and I think our win in Castlebar in 2016 was the first one there in a long long time.

So given all the above, I wouldn't be confident of a Kerry win, but I hope the young fella's give a good account of themselves and keep it competitive.

Getting the win yesterday was great as it eases the pressure of any potential relegation dogfight so we can afford to approach this match with a bit more latitude.

Looking forward to it, would many fans not think it's high time they gave the League a good crack? Winning a national trophy in Croke Park would surely be a fillip at this stage.

Kerry will be looking for revenge here and will go all out for a win. Mayo defence fairly good but their forwards cannot score from play , I think 2 points from play by the forwards yesterday so it looks a win for Kerry

I don't know mayo will have more first teamets for this game Saturday night and 14 of our panel are playing sigurson and trench in mid week so I'd be thinking if we can get out of mayo without a hammering we'll be doing well as score difference could be crucial at the end of the league like what happened poor cork a few years back.

Still I'm looking forward to the game and I'd travel to the moon to watch out young fellas play ball.

Ah now is this cute Kerry h##rism? Kerry won't get thrashed, wouldn't surprise me if Kerry get a good win in Castlebar, remember Kerry have failed to beat Mayo 3 times last year, the League and draw and replay in championship, hard to see 4 defeats in a row, at least we'll get a large crowd at the game, a dry night would be better, brings the big numbers out to watch

It's not really realistic for Mayo to target the league and the championship given that we have 20 odd players on the panel living and working in Dublin, especially with the new championship structures and having to play Galway in the first round this season. We know which one we'd rather win! Also, we can't absorb the losses of SOS, Vaughan, Chris Barrett, Keegan and probably now Colm Boyle in the way that other sides can.

As for the game itself, it'll be interesting to see how the new look Kerry approach this. Look forward to getting a first glimpse at senior of Clifford and co, and also a few promising new players that have been trialed for Mayo in the FBD League and NFL. Eoin O'Donoghue, Neil Douglas and Gibbons all seemed to do well yesterday, so hopefully they can continue that vein of form.

Kerry probably have a better chance than some of the Kingdom posters here think- Mayo have struggled in McHale Park in the last few seasons, probably due to it being one of the tighter inter-county venues, which doesn't really suit our running style of play.

Jesus you should email Rochford and the lads. Go all out and win the league and still be fresh in September while finding a new player or 2. Simple really.

No I'm being honest, look at the two panels we're gonna have the same panel for this weekend coming and for Monaghan a week later that we had for Donegal minus jod who's injured again, then there is a two week break where we'll Probably see a few more of the established players making a comeback, whereas ye'r panel looks more experienced and settled, to be honest I wish this game wasn't on till later in the league.

Mayo and Kerry will both be pleased with opening wins which eases the pressure on this game.

Hard one to call. Could well be a draw. Excepting a huge crowd in Castlebar Sat night.

will Kerry target A O Shea like most other teams have done in the last few years , at least the Refs are now giving red cards to the aggressors , like with Monaghan last Sunday and Kerry and Donegal last year , but Aidan gets massive abuse before the Ref acts.

Straight forward win for Mayo this game should be. Kerry are missing a load of first teamers and their young side were lucky to beat a Donegal side in transition at home last Sunday.

Mayo to win as quite simply they are a better team. Mayo by +4.

Mayo Should win, they have the better squad available of the two. Kerry's attack looks good, midfield is big, but defence is porous, and I'm being nice here.

However, Mayo made hard work of a one point win over a 12 man team last week, and home form for the last few seasons has been ropey - McHale is no fortress.

I'll backup Yew_Tree here and plump for a draw.

Expect a huge local turnout for this, always very well supported for this time of year (in fact any time of year really).

Clifford and O'Shea could be given a substitutes role for this will they? They will see a lot of action between the league and Sigerson Cup over the next two or three weeks.

To be honest I don't think we have the luxury to rest o'shea And Clifford completely unless we bring in a few of the Gaeltacht players as jod will probably be missing as well.

Anyone actually going to it ? I'm traveling up , Should be a cracking game of football but I'd say Mayo will beat us.

A good few positives going into this game
A decent looking midfield
Decent strike force

The negitive

The defence needs alot of fine tuning,

Will be a tight game Be alot of back and forth between us but I'd say Mayo will just edge out,

Has there been any update on Jamesy Donghue?

Fitzmaurice said it was a calf strain so I don't think it's too serious but they probably won't risk him all the same .

I'd say about 200 Kerry fans will make the journey the usual cohort really.

We'll need a massive improvement in midfield on Saturday.
