Replying To gunman:  "You would hardly send people all the way down to Lifford .Plenty of closer diversions than that."
I wouldn't send you that way, but's the council probably will!!!!! Best leave extra time just in case though as we all know traffic around letterkenny is terrible at the best of times.

Those road works are a pain and are due to be in place until March I think. I wouldn't be too familiar with the back roads around there either so my advice would be to come up the night before! If you're like me and have just done dry January I'd be mad for a rip of pints Saturday night. Where better to cut loose than the fine hostelries of Letterkenny town!

Galway can improve though after that messy game in Tuam, carrying ball into tackles still major issue for us.

One advantage of ending up on the hilly R250 route is that the stadium is on your way into town as far as I can recall.

Replying To Mayonman:  "This could go any way. I always thought Tyrone were overrated (not saying they are a bad team but never had them as top 3 team).

In my mind Dublin level 1, Kerry below that followed closely by Mayo. The rest in D1 can beat each other on any given day. Kerry & Mayo are also well beatable but seem to get better as year goes on. On that basis all is up for grabs in D1 this year with exception of Dublin."
How are Mayo below Kerry, when they beat them last year and have also been far more competitive against Dublin in championship football in recent years?

I thought well if Galway were playing Mayo I always think we can beat them. When we play Kerry...........I always think no matter how we play we will lose in the end!

Fair point though. I think Kerry have way more depth and new talent coming through. Think Mayo over performed at the latter stages last year and were excellent but I don't see them sustaining that as there best players get another year older. I struggled a bit with the order myself. I wouldn't argue too much if you put them the other way around.

We should. play that one in Ballybofey. have one of the other 2 games in Ballyshannon, and the other one in Ballybofey too. No sense in this fixture other than keeping people happy in Letterkenny.

Surely Letterkenny is a much better pitch and stadium than Ballyshannon and more central for Donegal supporters.

Certainly doesn't look like it.

Poor result for us today in our jinxed venue. We didn't know how to break down Galways blanket defence. Looking very bad for us now at the bottom of the table with trips to Dublin and Tyrone still to come.

Great win today, a lot of people must be given up this forum for the past week or so it's gone very quiet or is just negativity that they are interested in?? Either way it's onwards and upwards well done to all players and management.

Galway are playing with passion and deserved the win. A lot of poor misses from both teams but no doubt Galway were the better team

Nice road win for Galway especially without their Corofin players.

Poor result against a Galway team who looked far more dangerous when they had the ball.

Declan Bonner had promised a more open attacking style but there was little sign of it today & we are far too dependant on Paddy McBrearty for scores.

On the plus side we did well in the middle of the field & Hugh McFadden had another fine outing but we really need Murph back.

Got to say I was disappointed at full time without being heartbroken either. Galway marginally deserved to win, just because they took their chances and played with a bit more conviction. We had our moments, but failed to take the initiative when we needed to. This goes down to Galway's excellent blanket, which is a fairly severe lock down of the oppositions forwards. We had only 1 target man up front. Jigger and Brennan are runners, and cant win primary possession from a long ball as they are easily marshalled by a bigger defender. It meant that we were relying on our old ponderous system of going short all the way up the pitch. Got to say that it is a puzzle why we don't go long most of the time from our kick outs as we have great target men now to aim at.

I would like to see stats on the percentages of turn overs from balls from long kick outs that are converted to scores versus the ones that are lost from short kick outs.

Also worth looking at would be the percentages of scores resulting from long kick outs versus the ones gained from short ones.

I bet they would make interesting reading.

On to the Dublin game next week. I think that we will do well to stay in the game. I hope I am wrong, but it looks like we need to beat mayo and Kildare to have a hope. We also need possibly to get a result in either monaghan or tyrone to be sure of safety.

I thought Donegal controlled the game for large periods but lacked the guile to unlock the Galway blanket. Galway the far more efficient side and found their scores far easier to come by. They transitioned the ball far better and in the end just about deserved the win. Outside of Paddy McB Donegal struggled to get scores not helped by the often ponderous approach. Some of the Donegal kick passing was good but attempts started to wain as the game went on. Also to properly utilize it is important to have runners supporting the ball winner to really get the most of the situations created. Looking forward it is going to be a real struggle to stay in Division 1. I would still be hopeful but hard to see anything other than a loss next week against Dublin.
