Meath v Clare

Replying To RoylerKing:  "Meath ahead by two points here at the interval in Navan. Graham, to his credit, has really upped his game today and has chipped in with three fine points in the opening half. Big second half coming up for Meath."
Yes ..........4 points return from Graham was a welcome return. Full back line did well i thought especially Mc M c Gill . Menton and Flanagan continue to improve through hard work..Conlon best of half backs. Tobin and E Wallace did well again when introduced ,as did O Neill. Mc Keever looks promising.
Overall poor first half performance from forwards [apart from Reilly with 3 points] far too much book passing when within scoring range. Lenihan will be welcome back against stronger opposition. Clare virtual collapse in second half means cannot read too much into this win other than going in the right direction.

Replying To Loyalroyal17:  "What a savage second half. Great to see all the lads running with such pace, clever footballing and cuteness. You could see Clare starting to tire and we just got quicker. Is this Andys tactic...dont play the 1st half so the other team start to wobble 10 mins into 2nd half and we just run at them like bats out of hell.
Graham had a super game today. Only for him we would have been in a very poor position at half time. He was all over the wall, players and field. Defo the Biggy we all know was back in top form today.
But Conlon by far the player who stood out for me today."
McGill was immense today

Great second half from the team after a pretty turgid first half.

As mentioned above, Biggy really upped the work rate from last week.

For me the players that stood out were McKeever, Lavin, Conlon, Biggy, Menton and Flanagan. Some really fine points taken by McKeever. I thought Joey did well before going off injured. Eamonn got a nice score.

Overall a good day at the office but it must be taken in the context of the opposition who fell away in the second half.

This is the reason why we need division 1 football.

Good day at the office alot to improve on but we are slowly getting there. We still need to up a gear and stop this silly handpassing. I was very happy today with that result. It wasnt looking promising at all 1st half. McKeever is a pleasure to watch he never fails to deliver. If we can improve on the silly mistakes we are making and prove we can be consistant theres no reason why we cant go on and win the rest of our games. Well done to the lads its great to see that passion back that we had lost for a very long time and to feel the lads are actually enjoying the game.

Personally I have said he never should have been dropped ! Form is temporary and class is permanent and I always felt he would deliver but remember its only 1 game and I wouldn't be getting excited too much !

Meath1977, not too many were calling for him to be dropped straight away. After a run of bad games most posters were hoping this would be his game to produce and he did. I think everyone is delighted with Grahams performance both in attack and in defence.

Lets be fair, Clare provided nothing in the second half and I think we made them look better with our short kicks into the keepers hands and sloppy play

We played excellent in the second half and killed the game off early with 6/7 points in a row. Meath did not drop a single ball short in second half!!

I was very much impressed with our back line today also - notably McGill.

All eyes onto Cavan next week. This will be a tricky encounter. League table is very tight and dont expect it to change much.

Great win but we really should be winning against. Clare.

Biggy improved a lot today and I thought it was harsh taking him off, probably will dent a lads confidence getting taken off every week.

McGill won nearly every battle with his man, really turning into a top full back. Lavin was good once again, could be the end of M Burke once Keogan and Lavin are fit. Conlon showed why he should have started last week, a really exciting prospect.

McKeever was very good and will keep improving in my opinion. Didn't think McMahon did well today, he is a good player but not showing it at the minute.

Cavan will be a much tougher opposition and won't be as easy as a lot of people think but if we win it would look good for our hopes of promotion.

This petty stuff on biggy has to stop lads he can be frustrating and brilliant.from what I've seen of the man when teams put a runner or someone who can match his pace he seems to b on the fringes.
there always is the question can he do it again the kildare dubs tyrones.time will tell this year early days good win move on Cavan step up for us.

I totally agree about the players seeming to be happy in the current set up and as a result are playing with more confidence. Tho have to admit the first half was very poor fare from both sides. Big improvement after the break, backs were solid through out with mcgill excellent - it takes time to learn the trade in relation to playing full back and he is doing really well. Midfield were solid but were outfielded a number of times in first half tho I have to say flanagan is improving with every game. Reilly was only forward who threatened in first half, there were wides(but not making chances is far worse). 2ndhalf was one way traffic, mc keever looks really composed on ball . Mcentee worked really hard at 10. Ball was moved at pace for some really nice scores. Subs did well , tobin again is probably pigeon holin himself as a impact sub but was exactly that. O neill did well, wallace is a threat and Halligan seemed to have pace and looked ok. All in all a really positive end result. Just a thought on the crowd today, I was expecting a much bigger crowd, the o byrne cup was better attended, hopefully they will return for the remaining home games. p.s, power should have got a straight red, was really lucky linesman bottled it!!

Couldn't make the game today, the bishop in Donegal decided to put a confirmation on today to stop me in my tracks but got commentary on LMFM, decent win, wouldn't have expected that margin of victory but it's a great bonus which has us too if the table. I said we would need 5-6 points after the first three games to be in contention for promotion and we are on track for that, the new players are showing great promise so far and now it's all eyes on next Saturday night, a win in Breffni and I think we can start thinking very positively. Onwards and upwards and well done to the lads today, and the burners yesterday, great to see both teams on top of their respective divisions.
