Cork vs Killkenny

(Oldest Posts First)

This is the one Game I can not wait for and if both teams don't deliver I will not be happy. Cork have a good decent young team that could win the League and Killkenny will be dying to redeem them selves from a bad year.
It's a tricky call but I have to go for a Cork win.
Cork 3+

A new manager for Cork may well change the outline of the team and if that happens, all bets are off. Meyler has never been successful with the Cork u-21s or, indeed, any other team he coached, so he gets the Cork senior job. I hope I am wrong, but I have a bad feeling about this.

Did O'Grady put his name forward for the Cork job when Kingston stepped down or was that just wild speculation. I wouldn't rate Meyler either. If he sets Cork back this year it will be some downer for the Cork faithful.

I don't think O'Grady would go near the job while certain people are still in place at the County Board. Perhaps in a year or two he might be asked. Pat Ryan would have been a popular choice, but he had already stepped aside as coach, so I reckon choices were thin on the ground. Diarmuid O'Sullivan would have been another popular choice, but he has little experience at this level. If someone unknown had been chosen people would have got behind them, but Meyler has form and it's not very good form.

The league will be interesting this year...but I don't see it being as competitive as other years recently. Interesting to see Cork are slight favs for this game. I'll keep my money in my pocket but if I had to pick a team I think KK may just shade it.

Probably Damian Cahalane and Mark Coleman not available. Mark Ellis is sub.
League is opportunity to try out players.

Early days yet, but Cork delivered. Building on last year, confidence is back and may be a force this year.
Newcomers Eoin Cadogan and Tim O' Mahony played well. Seamus Harnedy was well utilized as a target man.
Team fought for every ball, and played as a team. We have 6 scoring forwards.

Great conclusion. Kilkenny will have about two of those players playing in the championship. You are utterly deluded if you think a Cork team managed by Meyler and containing the likes of Eoin Cadogan, Shane Kingston Luke Meade will win anything. Maybe I should not be so harsh. Just don't want you crying in your cornflakes later..

Words like "deluded" not so much harsh.....just ridiculous IMO in January. However, you will always have advanced begrudgers at the start of a new season. The cornflakes crying may of course come to pass but in the meantime Myler & Co deserve our support. If my memory serves me right you had similar comment during the league last year and yes....we surprised ourselves....we had a clinical Munster championship. Munster a minefield this year and expect Limerick to be a massive threat. Meade and Kingston deserve their places in the panel.....Cadogan off the scene too long and did'nt make it in the county scene in the past. It was great walking back the Centre Park Rd last night, in the company of some good Kilkenny heads, and they were happy enough with the performances of some of their new lads. Accepting its early days, last nights win was very important for our first competitive win in the new Pairc, not like the dismal curtain raiser, and the management and panel deserve our support, not from armchairs, for the season ahead.

I thought Cork did very well last night, considering they were short three of their top players, who would be expected to make a big contribution; Patrick Horgan, Bill Cooper and Mark Coleman.

There is no doubt that Cork got on top finally after the injury to Killian Buckley, but Cork were fielding an experimental side as well, and put in a very good shift of honest endeavour. What Cork person can't be pleased at that?

Such negativity. Not worth a response.

I never gave kk much credit even at their best but there's not too many better players in the country than eoin murphy. He's well on the way to being the best goalie of all time and I don't say that lightly. Best kk keeper in my lifetime by some distance anyway.

Yet, when I clicked on the HS team of the week, thinking if there was one Kilkenny player in it, it had to be Eoin Murphy. After two fantastic saves, two good long range points from frees and a great all round display; but no, they picked Patrick Collins of Cork. I watched the game, and maybe I'm a bit biased; but did he really have a better game the Murphy?

Collins was good, but so was Murphy and he made more saves, so should surely have got the number one spot. On the other hand, those Hogan Stand teams have always been nonsense, so it's a waste of time letting them upset you.

I am not a bit upset, just surprised,I dont think Eoin will worry too much, the main thing about the game was it was 15 on 15,I hope it stays that way
