I would say having a 30k stadium in waterford would be a complete waste of money but have one capable of holding the crowd there was last sunday.

was down in cork saturday night my estimate was 10k travelling support from limerick - really really good support in fairness youngmunstersman (Limerick) - Posts: 80 - 05/06/2018 10:25:13 2107587 Link 1 |
I think the official capacity of Walsh Park is around 11/12k. There might be other health and safety issues bringing it down even more. Should definitely have been allowed to use Nolan Park if that was their preference. 10k attendance for Waterford Tipp wasn't that surprising. Long commute from Waterford and moral low with the injuries, Tipp following has fallen away a lot in recent years. Some crowd in Killarney for Kerry and Clare 17,000! Pity it was so one sided. Not so long ago, Kerry vs anyone other than Cork in Munster would bring 3 to 5k. Kerry haven't traveled in great numbers to Cork in recent years, hopefully they will this time. It could be a great occasion in the new Park if Cork can put it up to them. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 336 - 05/06/2018 10:31:51 2107592 Link 0 |
Excellent travelling support from Limerick. Cork brought about the same if not a few more to Thurles vs Tipp. It has been the one thing the new format may have lost. With the option of seeing your team at home the following week, less supporters have been traveling. Surprised at only 14,565 at Wexford and Galway. Wex brought 40k fans on their own to last years Leinster final. I thought the chance of revenge on home territory would have sold out no problem. The tame enough defeat won't do much to draw them out either. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 336 - 05/06/2018 10:42:04 2107595 Link 0 |
Wow some good stats. Does these figures include the attendances at the JMcD/CR/LM matches, I know it would only add up to approx. 30-40k in total Brian_Coyote (Antrim) - Posts: 346 - 05/06/2018 11:11:17 2107608 Link 0 |
If it was on in Waterford there would have been 25000 at it..

15 k is a big jump seems unlikely that amount of people who didn't bother going to Limerick would travel to it if in waterford. Similarly people from North tipp who went to the game on Sunday may not have went if in waterford.

I understand what your saying but the novelty alone would have brought out a big Waterford crowd. Plus I think the motivation in both counties support was low for the game in the Gaelic Grounds. PeggyShippen (Limerick) - Posts: 300 - 05/06/2018 17:05:24 2107775 Link 0 |
Fair enough but my main argument was there no need for a 30k stadium in waterford. Maybe it is true what you say about motivation but waterford were probably the closest the have been to winning an all ireland last September in 60 years and tipp won the all ireland the previous year and were close to winning another one last year. A game both counties needed to win. And a local derby as well there should be no lack of motivation

What was attendance in Croke park today Blackbog (Carlow) - Posts: 704 - 10/06/2018 19:12:18 2109522 Link 0 |
8,230 in the Gaelic Grounds yesterday evening. Probably of that 8,000 were Mayo fans, excellent traveling support again. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11227 - 10/06/2018 21:04:19 2109570 Link 2 |
The attendance at Croke Park today was 39,028.

Just over 39,000, which probably half were Dublin.

Wouldn't fancy trying to get a ticket for Cusack Park next week. Clare and Limerick would nearly fill the Gaelic Grounds for this one. youngmunstersman (Limerick) - Posts: 80 - 11/06/2018 11:04:51 2109809 Link 0 |
Yeah a 20k stadium would do for the most part, it would only come under pressure for above that for 2 to 3 times a year max. Only issue with 20k stadium is that it wouldn't be allowed host a Munster final whereas a 30k would. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1102 - 11/06/2018 22:12:59 2110272 Link 0 |

Read a match report that 14,606 in Carrick on Shannon. If that is true hats off to Leitrim as would think no more than 3 to 4k from Monaghan would travel given it was early Sat afternoon and result never in doubt. Also 8k at Fer Mon Ulster semi so using that as a yardstick as well. If the attendance yesterday is as is it would mean 30% of Leitrim's resident permanent population was at the match. Very impressive and a serious ratio making them the best supported team in the country proportionally even if it was a one off game. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1946 - 01/07/2018 11:03:24 2117109 Link 0 |
