1st Senior Hurling Meeting of Cats & Kildare

(Oldest Posts First)

First ever senior hurling meeting of Kilkenny & Kildare yesterday in the Walsh Cup. Kildare only a couple of points down at half-time before the Cats pulled away well in the second half. Apart from Longford & Louth who are in the Kehoe Cup, all the Leinster counties (plus Antrim) entered the Walsh Cup. Wicklow got a hiding off Wexford yesterday but the rest would probably be happy enough with their lot. Galway didn't enter it this year.

Yeah, 4 points in it at half time. Tommy Quaid then put on a load of subs in the second half just to try some lads out and Kilkenny took full advantage!!

Unfortunately the level of support the kildare hurlers get is shambolic. We have the potential to be a lot better but interest isnt there. That being said the current kildare team could be alot better if some of the footballers played both codes and if the likes of the two kennys ( both transferred to tipp) and gerry keegan ( best hurler in kildare) were playing

Joe Quaid you mean! Kevin Martin's boys will take them this weekend.

Great stat. I would be interested to see which counties have still never met in the senior championship - hurling or football.

There's definitely a handful more you could add to that who would significantly strengthen the panel.

Kildare have gained (short term) from the rule allowing players from tier one counties play for them whist still playing for their home club.
Are they still doing that?

Kennys never got a look in with Tipperary did they? Keegan staying on in Australia? Johnny Byrne and Fergal Conway two great hurlers but unfortunately demands of being an inter county dual player is too much nowadays.
