One of our issues though, is the lack of a consistent freetaker/45 taker, that win/lose you a game

Probably will happen. I suppose it's good to get new players use to playing with the established ones before league starts

He is pretty good, but more the long range ones and 45s, not sure we have a consistent one there. Unless the likes of Lenihan has been practising.

Superb post Crinnigan, really well put. But expect the usual old sly and degrading comments from RD.

Anyway back to debate with ACTUAL Meath supporters.
You make a fair point. I would hope that lenihane is a bit more accurate this year. Maybe a bit more confident this year. We need to be the type of team that if we get a free within 45 it's a point. We have been missing that for a number of years now. So hopefully it will be rectified.

I think Dardis could be an option for long range frees if he can cement a starting place, he has a great boot from placed balls for Summerhill. I'd leave the inside frees between Lenihan and Mckeever.

A consistant free taker is one of the major priorities, a real drain on confidence when scoreable frees are missed.

I reckon we have our free taker in Ben Brennan. I think he is one to watch

I was talking to quite a few people over the Christmas break and contrary on the mood music on here things are looking good everything was positive. Training has been very good, very well organized and very competitive. The focus is very much on the league this year. It was it's described as D1 or bust, Championship aspirations and Super 8's are taking a back seat this year. Andy believes consistent games against the top teams will sort the men from the boys and lead to greater success down the line. Should be an interesting start to the year.

That sounds like a sensible approach - the league has stepped up in importance in the past few years and without a doubt playing against the likes of Dublin, Mayo, Kerry, Tyrone, Monaghan etc on a regular basis will only stand to the squad. Getting into Division 1 is a realistic aim and any talk about the All Ireland or super 8's is pointless until teh league is done and dusted! That said, if Andy is hanging his hat on the league, then he should be judged on how the squad perform in the league. Last year was more a case of him getting settled in but everything is on his terms now. I can only imagine that the training and preparation has been much better this year!

Liam Shaw and Saran O'Fionnagain too! I think Morris is good but probably needs to be tested at Senior level. Conlon, Moriarty, Ahern, Campion, O'Reilly, Martin and Smyth have all played with their Senior teams this year and held their own. Morris and Walsh are good talents for sure but haven't played adult football yet.

What other players under 20 are playing in the midfield position at senior level for their respective clubs that might be good enough whether having played at County level or not before.? it is such a specialist position that their must be lads out there we don't know of on forums"
Two McGowans in Ratoath - One played with their Senior team this year - seemed to go well for much of their group games - struggled in the game against Tones though! The younger lad - David - was outstanding in both the Minor and Under 17 finals but hasn't played adult football yet. Sean Reilly from Moylagh is good enough to play Mid Field in my opinion - he played their with the Minors a couple of years back and did very well. Brian Joyce has been good with Curraha although they moved him to the wing later in the year!

I would have thought the league was always very much the focus for the past few years. The first game against high flying Roscommon in Dr Hyde park will be so important. We absolutely must win this game.

While very disappointed about last year I'm optimistic about the year ahead. The games against Galway and cork in particular stood out last year and there seemed to be a bit more steel about the team-something we haven't seen in a long time. New blood and calling out some home truths leading to departure of some players can only be positive. As Boylan would say we needed to clear the windscreen to see where we are going.

Only ever heard positive talk coming from the meath camp over the last couple of months myself, it's normal for inter countie teams to lose players every year due to the shear scale of workload that it consumes, Andy mcentee is a proven winner meath will improve under his rein no doubt about that.

Should be a good game tonight and a stern test for us despite the fact it is only January and experimentation is in vogue
The last time i saw Meath they put 7 goals in against. We have moved on from those days.
It is an important game in the context of both counties aspirations for the league. Meath desparate to retrun to Div1 and Carlow to finally escape Div 4. The competitive games the better

Should be a fair turn out in NCP tonight
