Alan Dillon Retires

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

137 appearances for Mayo, 8 Connacht titles and one of our most natural, smart footballers.

We all know alan did not win an All Ireland but that does not define him and his great service to Mayo football.

He had some great performances for Mayo down the years but we did not see much of him in he last 2 years.

I hope we see him involved in coaching youngsters in Mayo in the near future. All the best Alan in your future.

Alan was a great player and servant to mayo, it's a pity he didn't get at least 1 allireland.

Yep, a great servant to the county .
He rolled back the years rolling up that blanket defence against Tyrone in 2016.

Can't believe he's walking away , he'll never forgive himself if Mayo win Sam next year which is a very strong possibility. All the best, easily Mayo's greatest ever forward I've seen.

Good luck to Alan in his retirement, I'm sure in the years to come he will be talked of amongst the best and most dedicated players to throw on the green and red.

Good and all as Alan Dillon undoubtedly was would you easily have him ahead of Ciarán MacDonald?

Another cracker of a post from you? Almost as good as your post when ROC walked away. Dillon is going to get zero game time next year so why would he stay? And the greatest Mayo forward you have seen? Seriously?

Lovely photo but don't let Bernard Flynn see it or we'll have to suffer some more of his 'writing'.

How do you know he'll get zero game time? Andy Moran was a sub for 3 seasons now he's poty , Dillon easily Mayo's greatest ever forward who was better? Please don't say McDonald who Mayo supporters abused until he retired and then became this god that never had a bad game according to Mayo supporters, complete bs.

Who would you have a head of him? In my time (~2000 onwards) he is the best in my opinion.
McDonald, Mortimer, Moran, O Connor are all in with a shout but I don't feel they were consistent enough for long enough to say they were better than Dillon.
One of my favourite Mayo players and one of only a few players from Mayo that I actually wanted to see win sam.

I'd have James Horan and Andy ahead of him tbh, and probably C Mac on his day. Not that I'd like this thread to descend into a slanging match concerning the relative merits and demerits of various Mayo forwards...
