Will Limerick win an All Ireland?

(Oldest Posts First)

Met a group of cork gaa fans and kilkenny gaa fans at a stag recently and all were of the opinion that limerick have to win an All Ireland in the next few years with the underage dominance of limerick and also the dominance of Na Piarsaigh at club level

Emm they obviously don't remember 2000-2002? and the fact that we're coming from a very low level. We're ranked 5th in Munster alone.

Also ignore club form, a club from Dublin won last year and a club from Antrim won the football a few years back.

Bring in Davy fitz as manager. He would get the best out of our players. Think he would win us an all-ireland. He would also have the personality to deal with any outside interference from media etc

Insane. Davy Fitzgerald would be a terrible fit for Limerick. His style of hurling would turn fans and players off very quickly. An argument could certainly be made that he improves fitness and gets a team to a certain level for a year or two. After that the team doesn't evolve. Davy Fitzgerald is a soccer type manager and Limerick can do without that rubbish.

He gets results. The style of hurling we have played over last 5 years is hard to watch anyway. Fitz would motivate players.

Limerick wont be far away but i think they need a clear out of some players who haven't really made it in the past
Breen will surely be added to panel winning is definately a good habit and the Na Piarsaigh lads have been big winners in last few years
I wonder will Kevin Downes ever deliver of his initial promise because if he does he would be a lethal forward.

The field has levelled out again with Galway/Waterford/Tipperary/Kilkenny/Cork on one tier at the moment but anyone can make a breakthrough I think that off all the teams other that the ones mentioned Limerick have the best chance of causing an upset.

What about Clare 'Clooney'? I know people are disappointed with them but they still have a sting left in their tail. I think super 11s suits them more than 15 aside due to their size and high skill rate. They must be targeting a Munster final at least.

Have to agree with Bud. Like him or loathe him Davy Fitz seriously improves teams.

He won a Munster with Waterford and brought them to their first All Ireland final in 40 odd years. He won Clare an All-Ireland from nowhere and Wexford were a joke this time last year. They nearly went down to division 3 and I wouldn't have put them much above Laois or Kerry. However he turned them around and they were a much better team than Limerick at the end of this years championship.

It can't all be coincidence or luck.
