This one's a repeat of the 2015 decider and Na Piarsaigh are 1/2 favourites to repeat the trick against the Waterford champions. We'll use this thread to discuss the game taking place at Semple Stadium this Sunday. Administrator (None) - Posts: 2274 - 16/11/2017 15:30:21 2062699 Link 0 |
Looking forward to this one, Dowlings a massive loss for Na Piarsaigh, thought Ballygunner weren't at their best the last day and were lucky to scrape through, should be a great game. Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 1893 - 16/11/2017 17:27:19 2062731 Link 0 |
Na Piarsaigh are for sure favourites. I would say that Brian O'Sullivan is a bigger loss to Ballygunner as he would be an automatic choice on the Waterford team if available. A prolific scorer and distributor. Any opposition would have to designate a marker on him. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2642 - 16/11/2017 21:41:43 2062775 Link 0 |
Very poor first half by Na Piarsaigh but they must have got a rocket at half-time. Spread of talent told in the end and there was only going to be one winner once they took the lead. Prof Honeydew (Limerick) - Posts: 1110 - 19/11/2017 16:43:17 2063011 Link 0 |
Well done N.a. Piarsaigh. They finished very strong but by god they were awful in the first half. Passes going astray, wrong options ect. Ballygunner ought to have been up 6 points at half time. The one day that they free taker is off target. It was very unfortunate for them. Also N.a. Piarsaigh should have made changes earlier . But like I said.. the Downed pass to David Breen was sublime. And once they got motoring they looked good. I was just wondering that the club competition is always pushed as pride of the parish stuff. How many parishes are represented on that N.a. Piarsaigh team? I can name at least 5. Christ the King for Caherdavin and Clareview, Holy Rosary for Ennis road, Meelick for Coonagh , St Munchins for Thomondgate..St Mary's. The list goes on. Great for Na Piarsaigh but the ironic thing is that it is bad news for Limerick senior team as they won't have these players for the league. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1102 - 19/11/2017 22:57:15 2063045 Link 0 |
With the championship format next year being so intense the league will be little more than a bunch of challenge matches. Whoever wins it will win it by default rather than actually targetting it. You only have to look at the number of teams pulling out of the Mcgrath cup and Munster league to see that pre championship matches will be a waste of time next year. Na Piarsaigh will probably get tougher challenges themselves than what Limerick will face in the league. mike03 (Limerick) - Posts: 2000 - 20/11/2017 07:03:10 2063053 Link 0 |
Na Piarsaigh look like they are destined for Paddy's day 2018. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 20/11/2017 12:47:03 2063078 Link 0 |
Na Piarsigh will be favourites to beat Slaughneil in mid-February but it will be a tough test. hamstring (Limerick) - Posts: 318 - 20/11/2017 14:24:30 2063089 Link 0 |
If Slaughneil beat N.a. Piarsaigh it 'll be bigger than Iceland beating England. It isn't going to happen. Cuala wont beat them either. I'd say they 'll beat Cuala with something to spare even though Cuala are a fine team. PeggyShippen (Limerick) - Posts: 300 - 20/11/2017 19:53:58 2063129 Link 1 |
Ballygunner's luck must've been all used up against Thurles & Sixmilebridge because they were somewhat unfortunate it didn't go down to the wire on Sunday. Congrats to NaP's. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 21/11/2017 16:25:06 2063190 Link 0 |
Ahh stop. Con O Callaghan in Croke Park would tear the NaP full back assunder. No club hurler could hold him in ireland, and most inter county full backs would struggle too. The physical level he has got to with the Dublin footballer compliments his natural Hurling ability. I don't think any team in Ireland have the played that Cuala have. You're wrong there. Cuala have some very good players and Con O Callaghan is very very good with the potential to be great. But overall Na Piarsaigh have better players and more of them. Anything can happen on the day and Ballygunner were only a points down with a few minutes to go last Sunday so I can recognise that.We 'll see come March who's better. Assuming Cuala & NaPs get to the final, will Dowling & Mark Schutte be back? keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 22/11/2017 16:23:38 2063288 Link 0 |
I would not bet on this game, that is if we can be certain that Kilcormac/Killoughy, Slaughtneill or the Galway Champions will all just go quietly into the night. However if it does come down to it a Nap/ Cuala final both teams will come against a side that will bring into play a level of opposition that either will not have met before. If it comes to pass it should be a battle royal and I sincerely doubt if there is going to be a cake walk either way.

You obviously haven't seen Na Piarsiagh play. They are a power house team who can hurl or play the physical game. Physicality won't be a problem Fitzy01 (Limerick) - Posts: 382 - 22/11/2017 22:33:00 2063324 Link 0 |
Pound for pound Na Piarsaigh have better players than Cuala. You take their starting 15 players from the Ballygunner game and at least thirteen of them have played for Limerick at some stage. Not to mention Shane Dowling who will be back in time for Patricks Day should they get there as expected. Con O'Callaghan has been in exceptional for Cuala. He proved to be unmarkable against Dicksboro and the St Martin's lads couldnt handle him on Sunday. However they will need to be firing on all cylinders if they meet Na Piarsaigh. Ballygunner is a small village with a church and school outside the city before the city grew towards it. I remember when they were a junior club easy to beat before a dedicated school teacher began to lead them. Congratulations to Na Piarsaigh . Hope they go all the way and hopefully Ballygunner will have their day in the sun some time.
