Junior Championships to go All County?

(Oldest Posts First)

I heard that there is a push on to make the Junior Championships All County. With the new inter county formats for next year the pressure will be on to streamline the championships. This is very difficult if they stay in the present Divisional, uneven unbalanced format.

That'll be fought hard all the way I'd say. To be honest, I can't see how the junior championships take as long as they do in limerick, especially when the county team was finished reasonably early this year. Cork final finished Tuesday evening (replay) and they had to deal with Cork running later in the season and having divisional sides playing the the county championships (Imokilly won it with a few players from junior clubs involved in the first 15, as well as subs). The Boards haven't helped themselves in the way they have run these competitions over the years - I don't know if they have been letting clubs postpone matches for small reasons or not but as you say, the pressure will be on from now on to get competitions finished in time

Is this something the county board would be trying to bring in themselves, or would it require a motion from one of the clubs?

This will never happen, the west junior championship is too much of a money spinner. A motion to go all county failed two years in a row a few years back.

The Junior A Football is happening, is the hurling following suit?

Hurling will have more teams from the divisions going out into the county championship, so the divisional championships will stay.

Football to go all county, 4 groups of 5 with top 2 advancing to the quarter final, 3 semi finalists from last year (croom, kilteely, fr.caseys) plus cappamore who were relegated will all be seeded into different groups I've heard. In the hurling 2 runners up from each division will get to the last 16 with the winner going straight to the quarter final. I presume both championships will have to start a bit earlier to allow for the few extra fixtures

just see the draws for the football, interesting group with Kildimo in it, to be honest with good management they should be out of this grade, some serious players but bias holding the team back. hurling should also go all county, it would make a good championship

Anyone have any feedback on the new Junior Football format, two full rounds played, with the usual suspects performing well?

In the football, the last round of fixtures leaves a lot to play for. In Group 1, Kilteely Dromkeen have topped the group, and it's a shoot put between Kildimo Pallaskenry and Hospital Herbertstown for 2nd and 3rd.

Group 2 sees Fr Caseys and Oola battling for top spot, while Pallasgreen need a 19 point turn around against Monagea to avoid the relegation semi. Avoiding defeat would see Monagea progress, while Bruree could still advance with a 5 point Pallas win.

I'm Group 3, all 4 teams playing have a chance to reach the knock out stage. Monaleen are through no matter what, but if they lose, where they finish is out of their hands. Cappagh need a win or draw in that match. Only a win will be enough for Ballylanders against Cappamore, and they would also need a Cappagh win/draw.

Group 4 is still the most open, with all teams in with a chance or progressing, or contesting the relegation. Points difference could well be crucial in this group also, especially if Ballybricken Bohermore win their back-match against South Liberties. However, a Liberties win will prolong their interest this year, while making the final day shake up a lot clearer.

The final 16 are now known in the Junior A hurling, with the divisional winners awaiting the results from the round of 16 in the quarter finals. The defeated divisional finalists match up against the teams that emerged 3rd from their division. The cream of the crop is left, and there should be some interesting games in the upcoming weeks.

I was unfortuneately unable to go home to celebrate last week and I understand the cup is in Doon this evening. Could anyone tell me where it is due to go during the week. I would be particularly happy to know when it is Knockaderry, and Feohanagh, but any 'journeys' to the South West of the county would interest me.
