I think the Dublin vote is getting split probably.

McCarthy was my Player of the Year and Fenton was last year.

I said it last year and I'll say it again. Individual awards are stupid in team sports. There's only one thing that matters and that's your team winning.

For footballer of the year? Kinda agree, Andy was poor up until the replay against Roscommon. From there on he had good games.

The problem with the All-Stars is that they can only give 15!

Tough job as you can easily make a case for all those nominated.

Well done to all picked and nominated.

At the end of the day do they really matter? The All Ireland medal is the real prize at the end of a long season.

But we count the Leinster championship do we? Player of the year is all about the last 3 games. We can try and say it shouldn't be but it is. Andy was joint favourite. How can anyone be surprised at the joint favourite winning the award? Get over it lads!

Agreed. However, I am surprised that neither Parsons nor Cluxton were named. I thought both were shoo-ins.

One for a sports quiz in future years, name the forward who played in 5 all-Ireland finals, failed to score but got 3 All-Stars.
Oh, and throw into the mix that he failed to perform consistently in all 5.

I would say there is a fair share of sympathy voting, the GAA can't really do this right at all, they cannot make it a public vote as the there would be 15 dubs plus player of the year!! on the other hand you have a cohort of ABD voters. But I don't blame the voters I blame the selection process for all star nominees there really should be a better spread of players, obviously the two best teams in the country are going to provide a lot of the selections but the net should reflect the best players in best positions no mattr what county.

Tbh Clarke and cluxton by far the 2 best keepers in the game so could of gone either way ,the problems I have with this all star team is cavanagh in instead of tom Parsons and giving dean rock an all star for wing forward

Ah yeah surprised Clarke got the nod as I thought Cluxton had a great year but to be fair some of the saves Clarke made this year were exceptional even if good kick outs are a bit of a liability.

Parsons was unlucky too but Cavanagh was excellent as well.

You could pick 3 teams!

Disgraceful post.

It's your opinion, and that of many others, that Cĺuxton should have got one.

It's my opinion, and evidently that of those who matter in the selection process, that David Clarke had a better year.

Absolutely no need for a post like that.

It's saying a lot about the Dublin posters on here that not one has so much as tried to congratulate their own players who did win awards.

Remember too, Clarke won his on merit in a straight shootout against cluxton and Morgan. Dean rock was moved to half forward to accommodate Mannion, and Cian O'Sullivan to centre back to accommodate Mick Fitz.

Correction. .MesAmis has congratulated those selected.

Others could show a similar level of decorum.

Clarke aside and even at that it's not a disgrace he got an all star...name a Mayo player undeserving of his award?

I have to say also, some of the comments on social media around Mayo players getting all stars are a disgrace. These are ameteur players receiving recognition for their achievements this years.

The ommission of tom parsons for colm cavanagh is a pretty poor decision for sure. But it's not the only one. How did cian o Sullivan get an all star. They only game he was needed as a sweeper (The final v mayo) he was AWOL. Paul Murphy and Tiernan mccann were ahead of o sullivan this season. Dean rock is not a half forward yet he wins an all star as a half forward. Kevin mcloughlin and ciaran Kilkenny were more worthy half forward winners. I feel that sometimes the selection committee feel like they must pick players from the finalists. When in actual fact the best players are not always on view in the final.
Finally on cluxton their is no doubt that he has changed the face of goalkeeping in Gaelic football. But all stars are judged on all round performance and Clarke has being the best around keeper for the last two years. It's not all about kickouts.
