A google search reveals that the New York Gold Cup was presented by the Fermanagh Men's Association of New York to the Irvinestown grounds committee in 1949 with proceeds to go towards the development of St Molaise Park. However the county board were apparently so impressed by the cup that they felt it was a fitting trophy for the county championship and decided to use the cup for that purpose instead.
