Rooney should have been a shoe in to start but Andy doesn't seem to rate him. His performance for Skryne last weekend and for Meath on many's an occasion have proved he's the undisputed top midfielder in the county.

Of course he should. He hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip since returning from Australia.

I agree 100%. When harry is fit he is easily our best midfielder in my opinion .I think he's been badly treated since he came back for his travels.

If those four players have left the panel it is a pity but not a complete disaster. Toner and Dardis saw no action in the League and were never even making the match day squad. Brian Conlon did not look in the best of physical condition for Senior inter county football and was not playing well when used and a time away from the squad to work on his S&C and enjoy some regular club football should do him no harm. The same could be said for Harry Rooney as I don't think modern inter county football suits him as he seems to not have the legs. A year of no football takes its toll and perhaps he will be more hungry for it next season after a full year with Skryne. Sean Tobin will be a big departure as I felt he was improving with every game and is one of our better forwards. For the sake of it I am going to take a stab at a team that includes players who are not presently playing for Meath and perhaps should be if they were willing to give the commitment or were not injured, properly conditioned and playing well.

1. Paddy O'Rourke (Skryne) - Left panel for reasons he stated
2. Seamus Lavin (Dunboyne) - Current starter
3. Conor McGill (Ratoath) - Current starter
4. Sean Curran (Don/Ash) - Current panelist (Injured)
5. Ciaran Lenehan (Skryne) - Asked back to panel since being dropped in 2013, cannot commit. A far better player now
6. Donal Keogan (Rathkenny) - Current Starter
7. Alan Forde (Navan O'Mahonys) - Injured for club and county
8. Bryan Menton (C) (Don/Ash) - Current Starter
9. Ronan Jones (Dunboyne) - Left panel to study in America
10. Stuart Lowndes (Dunboyne) - Dropped from panel mid 2017 due to injuries, should be looked at again
11. Andrew Tormey (Don/Ash) - Dropped in 2017, was injured now back. Fitness levels big concern
12. Graham Reilly (St Colmcilles) - Current starter
13. Cillian O'Sullivan (Moynalvey) - Current starter
14. Padraig McKeever (Simonstown) - Current starter
15. Donal Lenihan (Dunboyne) - Current starter
Subs:
16. Jack Hannigan (Don/Ash) - Left panel in2017 due to lack of game time
17. James McEntee (Curraha) - Current starter
18. James Toher (Trim) - Cant commit due to hurling. Would have liked to have done both if possible
19. Donnacha Tobin (Blackhall Gaels) - Left panel in 2017
20. Eamon Wallace (Ratoath) - Current starter
21. Joey Wallace (Ratoath) - Current panel member
22. Harry Rooney (Skryne) - Left panel apparently
23. Daniel O'Neill (Wolfe Tones) - Current panel member
24. Mickey Burke (Longwood) - Current panel member
25. Brian Power (Ratoath) - Current starter
26. Bryan McMahon (Ratoath) - Current panel member
27. Thomas McGovern (Don/Ash) - Was on pre season panel 16/17, left panel then
28. Daragh McGovern (Don/Ash) - Was on pre season panel 16/17, left panel then
29. Ben Brennan (St Colmcilles) - Current starter
30. Seamus Mattimoe (Gael Colmcille) - Was on 2017 panel, not now
31. Michael Newman (Kilmainham) - Not on panel and injured
32. Shane McEntee (Dunboyne) - Current starter
33. Thomas O'Reilly (Wolfe Tones - Current panel member
34. Robert McCarthy (Dunboyne) - Was asked to join in 2017, cant commit
35. David McQuillan (St Patricks) - Was on 2017 panel, not on it now
36. Cian O'Brien (Ratoath) - Current panelist (Injured)
37. Sean Tobin (Simonstown) - Left panel apparently
38. Ruari O'Coilean (Navan O'Mahonys) - Left Panel to study abroad
39. Padraig Harnan (Moynalvey) - Left Panel to study aboad

That's a pretty strong squad in my opinion and could do something if all available.

Rooney probably should have been given more minutes in the league but when he featured he played well for 20 mins and then went out of games, But a loss for sure, Brian Conlan gone too? he has really struggling for club and county the last 6 months, but a loss and potentially a super player, hopefully not gone for good, is Tobin gone? if so a big loss, one of our more consistent players in the league and from the club games last week I seen he was the stand out performer.

You're speculating yet again. Forde is not in or around the Meath and won't be this year. Your knowledge of Meath football leaves a lot to be desired

Forde isn't even playing for o mahonys this year but you wouldn't know that as just like Toney says your only interest is in the county senior team and protecting Andy mcentee. The fact is clubs should have their county players the week before championship it's ludicrous for people to suggest otherwise, to think these clubs train these players from a young age into the players they become to then see them just 4 or 5 times on the training field all year and only once before a championship game is disgraceful. First iv heard of players leaving the panel but I was told there were no simonstown players at county training the other night other clubs like ratoath should repel also

Agree, thumbs down should have no place on a forum. If people have am opinion they should state it

He is still involved in panel. As he was on sideline with team at both Louth and Down matches. But I do know he is not fully fit by any means

One other thing though. Is why is this such a problem for Meath clubs? At the agm perhaps clubs should bring a motion that no training with county players . Cause it is happening with EVERY county and I mean every county. Why is it a problem that Andy is doing it too? Do we want to support the county team or don't we??
Also players have said that these games are not important, this is why the structure has to be changed.

That is a blatant lie. Hasn't been involved in any capacity since the injury.

Replying To ratlag:  "The only thing that will help clubs is a change in championship structure and its as simple as that. The two rounds in April are as pedestrian as they come because they don't mean as much. Teams can afford to lose and still qualify once they peak in August. This is not just my opinion, its the opinion of a lot of the players in my club and I can guarantee from speaking to them, at least 8 other clubs in the senior ranks. This is also the attitude from some lads on the county panel aswell playing with their clubs and its hard to see how this doesn't transpire to the county sety up. 16 teams, 4 groups of 4 and every game matters then, until this happens and the club scene gains a competitive nature all year round I can't see the county set up pushing onwards."
Maybe when change to the club championship is put forward the county delegates will vote for it instead of fighting change and then saying how bad the current system is.

So what was he doing on sideline in both matches. Did you see him or are you just telling blatant lies. Which I certainly are not.

Wouldnt be surprised if McKeever followed his club mates Tobin and Conlon who is his cousin. Hopefully Padraig continues as we need free scoring forwards like him on the panel.

Yes Alan hasn't been involved as far as I know. He's a long way off playing for Meath as he hasnt been playing with his club.

Am not sure what to believe with the players leaving. I believe they were not at training and that may be all there is to it. They may even have agreed with Andy to miss it. Only one that know are the players themselves and Andy - not us ( most of whom are looking for something negative to bash the current set up). If they have gone we will have to move on. Andy has a certain standard to try and bring meath back to where we should be and it involves a serious commitment from the players. Personally I think the 3 players mentioned will be in the squad come May and these comments will look silly. Up the Royal.
