Pearse park is a awkward place to play.

Won't be easy to beat Longford there allright, wasn't that long ago Dublin just about scraped a one point win in Longford, in saying all that I'm still confident of a Meath win but it will be tough

Any word on who is in training at the moment ? Anybody left the panel apart from O Coileann, Jones and Harnan and POR ?
Who are the new faces ? Any new goalkeeper ?

Yea it would be great to see the training squad. Kildare released their current training squad last week. Why cant we do the same thing. Give the fans an idea of what to expect. Its not like youre going to be giving anything away by naming a squad.

Yea I think this would be a great idea and would do away with a lot of the idle speculation that goes on on this site. Some posters are again asking about the ages of certain new players that are 'rumoured' to be on the panel. I myself am not too worried if some new lads are 'getting on a bit' once they have the ability and can do a job for a few years, as I believe that a mix is required. But first of all let the supporters know who is likely to feature over the next ten months hopefully.

Just after looking through some pages on this thread. Can't believe the negativity of some people towards McEntee. Kildare Semi final was bad but overall last year was a clear improvement from previous 2 years. Collapses were not the norm like in the previous 2 years (I think we had went 9 or 10 successive championship matches where we were outscored in second half before McEntee came in). After losing in Leinster we actually regrouped and won a qualifier match (OK we played bad but in the end we finished strong and ground out a result, something we had got used to not seeing). We were a bit unlucky against Donegal. This year I don't think we'll win any titles but I expect we'll be more competitive in most matches. McEntee's previous record as a manager is good (with Ballyboden and Meath minor's), it's amazing to see some already writing him off after only 1 year. I would love to see Rooney and Jones come back but a bit of a shake up of the panel with some players moving on might not do much harm, some players might have got stuck in a bit of a comfort zone from before McEntee came in, this might shake things up a bit.

Joe being picked for his distribution, Robbie Burlingham showed again last night that when it comes to shot stopping there is no one better in the county, his distribution can let him down though, that is the reason he was not kept on panel last year and I don't think it has improved much this year. kick outs are more important than shot stopping in many peoples eyes, they size and profile of a lot of inter county keepers has changed in recent times, not so many giants, but nimble players who are able to get the play restarted quickly and accurately..... I don't agree with this but that is where things are at

Would Take Robbie over Joe Any day..Great saves last night from Robbie far better shot stopper..Give me a better shot stopper than distributor any day of the week.Surely if thats the problem then they could work with him to improve his kick outs..Still in fairness to Joe he hasn't been given a chance so dont want to criticize...Maybe he should be given a few games in the obyrne cup.

Newman is gone as well, you have lads like Barry Dardis, Liam Ferguson, Seamus Mattimoe, Conor Dempsey, Paddy Kennelly, Ben Brennan, Shane Glynn, Podge McKeever to name but a few.

Few more of our top players joining Newman and Co. in dropping out but we should let them announce it in their own way without having it put up on a fans forum.

I can't blame Newman at all given the way his serious injury was handled by those in charge. Joins Cian Ward as another superb forward talent wasted by Meath managers in recent years.

Yeah it's really so disappointing. Carroll is/was a superb talent as well, two footed and very skillful.

At least Banty in fairness picked our best players and treated them with due respect. All these silky footballers like Farrell, Carroll, Ward and Newman cast aside for the likes a sprinter who can't even solo the ball...

Newman was often rushed back far too early.
At least last year he wasn't.

Banty didn't want Carroll either. John Evans fought tooth and nail with Banty to get him into a championship squad. He was the last name down when they finalised a 30 man squad and then in challenges etc Carroll showed up really well and Banty had to put him in. I'm not acting in the know on this. I shared a taxi/ hotel transfer bus with John Evans on a holiday later that year and when i said i was from Meath he was delighted to talk football. Good help our respective wives it was a long trip.

I am replying to "At least Banty in fairness picked our best players and treated them with due respect." in particular. I can clearly remember Mickey Burke having to go to a Westmeath venue with the reserve team while the first team trained at home and at the same time Longwood were playing the first round of the Senior Hurling Championship. This was hardly treating a player with respect.
