Starting a new thread as I couldn't take any more of the waffle on the dubs thread...

So....any players catching the eye in our championship that should get a run next year?

Who should captain the side next year? Will we see big Joe back on the panel?

Andy Mc should do his best to get Padraic McKeever involved, class act.

Also I know he's had his fair share of chances already but David Larkin has been probably the best forward on the club scene this year.

Another man who had a chance, but S Lowndes off dunboyne could be worth another look as any dunboyne game I saw this year he was then standout

I could be wrong but I believe the panel has been picked with a number left off or opting out and a few new faces have been added.didn't hear who new faces are but joe is definitely one of those opting out. Think they start training this week

I agree regarding Mckeever he really needs to be brought if possible. Other players I would like to see during the O Byrne Cup and League are David Larkin and Ross Ryan (Summerhill), Shane Glynn (Wolfe Tones), Niall Murphy (Curraha), Peter O Connell (St Michaels).

I think midfield is starting to become a bit of an issue. Apart from Shane O Rourke there has been no standout midfielder in the senior championship. We haven't replaced Meade or Gillispie since their departure and Rooney or Flanagan don't seem to be the answer either. Jones and Nash were the best of the lads coming through and now they are both gone.

Would like to see a pairing of Menton and Conlon at midfield. Thought Conlon was brilliant in the game against Donegal.

If Harnan is leaving Conlon would be the ideal replacement for him at centre half back. I don't like to see this experimenting with players positions particularly because he is so young, he stood out at club football as a centre half back so leave him there.

Have been at a lot of games this year and quite a few players are worth a look assuming they will commit, Toner and Moriarty from the Ha, I know Toner was involved early in the year. Don't see Peter O'Connell as an option yet, Padraig McKeever should be involved if he is willing to commit and Niall Kane from Simonstown, much more mobile than our current options. Midfield is a real issue, best club midfielders are all getting on, although was umpiring a game earlier in year and thought Sean Clare from Syddan had a stormer, big man and fairly mobile, very good in the air, not sure what age he is though, Think the Micheals will have a couple of lads worth a look in a year or 2 but they should be brought into the under 20 set up, Meehan dangerous the few times I watched them. different thread but they will go very well in IFC next year, j

I think our priority is midfield for sure ,obviously if you get whipped out there, there is serious pressure on the backs.Conlon and Menton have to be the. two that play there. Not sure how much fielding both players can do,but both are workhorses and are athletic. They will get up and down the field.
But we need to come up with plans to be better around that sector and help both midfielders.Dublin haven't got great fielders as such in the middle of the park for example. Last year we often saw a half forward line of Wallace,O'Sullivan and Reilly, but, for me we need guys we anticipate breaking ball and know when to track their runners. Would be tempted to try O'Sullivan as a corner forward and have the likes of James McEntee and Alan Forde as wing forwards(whenever he is available) Tobin also needs to be wing back this year as he is good at anticipating breaking ball.
If we can get our play at kick outs improved it will help us hugely imo.

Would normally agree with that, but If he is one of our best 2 options at midfield then he should play there imo.Power was solid when he played at 6 last year

I said that last year! All that is really wrong with Meath football is our kick outs, they don't gives us a platform to build on or attack ...our kickouts actually make the players nervous (and the supporters) because we don't know what kind of damage they will do to ourselves !

We need a new goal keeper who spends his time playing Meath club football in goals ...not at full forward or Midfield !

It's definitely not the only thing wrong but certainly doesn't help to give away so many scores from the kick out. Goalkeeper situation needs fixing.

At the other end of the pitch we need a decent freetaker. Any chance Newman can rekindle some of his form?

Agree. Conlon/Mento midfield. Power at 6. McGill improved alot last year so would leave him at no.3.
