Ulster Club Competition

The best of luck to Ballymachugh and Shercock today on their journey to greater things in Ulster for Cavan football. The best of luck as well to the Gaels next week in their first round. It would be nice to see all three progress to the next stage. Sean

Ah well they did say they were not good in the county final or that Derry team are special.
Well done to Ballymachugh it's a step forward nice to see.

Well done Ballymachugh, Yeah Shercock got hammered by a good Derry side . They will learn from it.
Gaels now in the so called easy side of the draw.
Hopefully they might get a good run.
Discipline is the key in club football , need to finish with 15 players to have any sort of chance against any team.
Hopefully Jason and Co will have instilled this mentality .
I feel if they can stay clear of red and black cards and concentrate on their speed and football ability well they can be a match for anybody in Ulster.
It will take a good team to beat them IF they concentrate on their football .

Lamh Dhearg won the Antrim Senior final today. They only have a week to get right for Ulster Club amongst the partying, so Cavan Gaels should be favourites and at home.
They have a few current and past Antrim players. Paddy Cunningham Ryan and Conor Murray

Good win for Ballymacugh. Away in Donegal next. Shercock well beaten but they would still be happy with their year, compared to earlier in year.

Don't agree at all. Ballymachugh got the only draw they would beat in Antrim Champions. They won't go any further, mark my words.
Shercock got well bet by a Derry team, they over-achieved to win Intermediate this year (Shercock) and were never going to challenge in Ulster, they probably didn't give a toss either. They won the championship and fair play to them. Every dog has its day.

Unless we get the number of teams in Senior down to 10 or less. Intermediate 12-14 and Junior 16-18 we will continue not to compete in Ulster at Intermediate and Junior level for the most part.

It's going to be 12 Senior, 14 Intermediate and 14 Junior from next year. That's why 3 teams have been relegated from Senior and Intermediate for the past 2 years.,to have stronger representative in Ulster.

Cuchullains , Arva, and Mullahoran should improve the standard at intermediate. Drumlane, Denn and Killenkere make Junior more competitive too.

Back in 2001/2002 Drumgoon didn't have any issue in the Ulster Junior or Intermediate championships reaching the finals in both and winning the Junior All Ireland. They operated out of Division 2 during both campaigns but won promotion the year they got to the Ulster Intermediate final.

League structures or championship structures don't have a huge bearing on things. If a team is good enough and takes the competition seriously they will generally do fairly well. To be fair to Shercock an Intermediate title was overachieving (I'd imagine) from their target for the year so they naturally enjoyed their success. I'd fancy Ballymachugh to give the Junior a good rattle

I never hang out any flags even when my beloved Cork team are playing so don't be silly. I will not be at the match but it will be interesting to read your posts over the coming weeks. I hope the gaels get a good run to be honest It might bring some life back into what you call football in Cavan. PUKE

After the hammering it got over the last four months with so many matches you cannot expect anything better. As I write there is water on most of the pitch walked on it for my first time since the 4th of September this morning and it's beyond personal repair by me unfortunately. I will be back next Monday and it will be even more damaged. What month is it and unless you have been locked up you would also know the weather we have had and allowed all the matches to be played on it. Question now is will they do the same this time next year if yes well there is no point in spending €200000 to re surface the county pitch for it will look the same as it does right now.
Just a question theham what section of the pitch is a disgrace ????? just in case I might have missed it. Sean O'Rinn B.A

Good luck to the Gaels on Sunday . Heavy pitch won't suit them. Hopefully their football ability will pull them through.
Discipline is the key . 4/5 games last Sunday where a sending off changed a game . It's difficult to win with 14 in winter football.

As it should be brand new pitch 100% maintained by Prunty I would not expect to see it any other way and I would be surprised it it was not. Not like years ago when the ball could roll from the middle of the pitch right over to the far corner flag without anyone touching it. Bet it's level now it was so uneven then for a county ground. Last time I was there however was when the late Tony Tighe died at the round about.
