Replying To Inaroundehouse:  "Nobody said anything about him doing a better job. He's doing a mighty fine job at the moment.
All the doubters need to relax and give credit where it's due.
He's only in his 2nd year.
Let's stop judging him with a previous manager who was 5 years as a manager an umpteen years as a selector.
Mattie is putting his own stamp on things and playing the players he wants not the ones he inherited.
Keep her going Mattie"
Well obviously he's not doing a better job than Terry...

Before this 3 game run Mattie had 2 wins in League and Championship. We had our record home defeat in the McKenna Cup this year. Nobody can be blamed for criticising him.

He's doing well now. If we can get to division 1 then he'll have achieved something tangible. Really hope he does it, seems like a great guy.

Congratulations to all on another great win yesterday. Keeps us safe for this year and sets us up very nicely for the remaining 3 games. 1st goal accomplished. I would have been happy at the start of year with consolidating our Division 2 status but at this stage there's no reason why we shouldn't be getting promoted. It's not the be all and end all and we probably need to play our remaining games with Donegal in mind but we've shown enough so far to stake a claim for the April 1st final spot.
So 4 games in we're in a better position to judge Mattie than after a couple of McKenna Cup games. Early days but the signs are promising. Look disciplined, look more mobile in critical areas, starting to get a settled centre to the team and look more dangerous and less predictable in attack. Nice blend of youth and experience too and overall we look very settled and comfortable. That's a bit of a worry too. Since the Clare game no one has asked any serious questions off us. Is it because we're that good or our opponents were so poor? Time will tell but hopefully big tests are on the way. We need them. It's now critical time for a lot of teams and backs will be to the wall. You would expect Down to come at us fired up and fighting. They need the points and opportunities are fast running out. Roscommon and Tipperary will want to get promotion so hopefully those games will be played like finals. Lots for Mattie to consider. We need to be aggressive and give ourselves the best opportunity but we need to maybe give more lads game time too. Wouldn't be ideal if we hit a lot of injuries after the league and go into championship with too many untried players in the squad. I suppose it's a balance he'll have to try get right. But it's a nice position to be in at this stage and hopefully after the next 3 league games (4 would be better!!!) we'll be singing his praises further.

Can anyone predict a championship 15 at this stage?

It'll be similar to the team that started last weekend's game. I think McKiernan will start but think Mackey will be kept as a bench option. Goalkeeper is a 50 50 call.

Galligan

Phillips
Faulkner
McLoughlin

M Reilly
C Brady
Moynagh

Clarke
Magee

McVitty
McKiernan
E Flanagan

C O'Reilly
Cole
S Murray/Clerkin

It won't be a million miles away from that I don't think.

Replying To cavanblueman:  "What a fantastic win for the lads and off course the manager. To go to Cork, and in particular, the spectacular Park Ui Chaoimh and come away with a win is fantastic. Even more satisfying is to see the like of Fredflint and the previous managers bandwagon reeling in their feathers, they had Mattie written off after his first year.

We now have an identity, we have a game plan, and thankfully, its not just purely defensive. We defend well as a unit, but whats more impressive is the speed at which we break, and in some cases, the ease at which we can take our scores.

Three tough teams to play, but we will go into them with confidence. I'm not concerned about promotion and I think another year in Division 2 would do no harm, having said that, it would be nice to win a National League Division 2 title, and I've no doubt, if we got promotion to Division 1, we would be better equipped this time around. I think we will also give Donegal a good rattle in the Championship."
Can't help yourself can you? For the record, if Terry was judged solely on his league results he'd be ranked as one of the best and most successful managers in the country! Can you not enjoy success and good performances without being snide? Matties 2nd season has shown much improvement and positive tactics. Fair play to him and long may it continue.

Cavanblueman posted the spectacular Park Ui Chaoimh????????????

I was slated over something very trivial regarding the county pitch in Cavan yet not one word about the condition or adverse comment towards the groundsman regarding the terrible condition of the spectacular Park Ui Chaoimh PITCH Very strange to say the least but I know the poster had an issue with me personally and not the pitch in general. Considering the spent near on 85 million it was a disgrace to even allow one game on it let alone two.

The thing is Jamsie lad, he's not judged solely on league results and neither is any other manager. For the 5 years Terry was in charge, he didn't win a thing (apart from the Intercontinental Cup). His championship record was abysmal, and the style of football was absolutely terrible. People actually stayed away from Breffni Park at one stage because they couldn't watch it any longer.

And even more damning is the fact that he had 4 Ulster U21 championship winning teams at his disposal which he failed to develop into the senior panel.

But anyway moving forward, it took Mattie the 1st season to rid the deadwood, change the mindset of the players and get them playing attacking football. And that Jamsie lad is exactly what he has done and long may it continue - its so satisfying to watch a Cavan Team play football, football that us fans have been waiting for, football that Cavan Football is known for - gone is the black death for ever.

I 100% agree with your post they were slating the manager last year but I said it's this year we judge and so far he has done the business. Back room change seems to have worked as well al though the substitutions seem to be predictable. Maybe now that the Sigerson's cup is over other players may become available. Time will tell us for I would hope that there is room in some positions for the championship games going forward.

I seem to remember these triumphal sort of posts being made at start of McKenna Cup last year too and the year didn't go too great afterwards. Relax with the stupid proclamations and the planned trips into the sunset. And you'd want to brush up on your facts too. He had 4 full years in charge of the Seniors and had 2 Leinster titles and an All Ireland with the juniors in that time. But I'm sure you can list your achievements in the game that will dwarf his.

More nonsense. Why don't you judge Mattie on his championship performances, which were abysmal so far! Very selective of you. Terry's last league campaign we played brilliant stuff and were among the top scorers across all divisions. But you wouldn't know as you stayed away from Breffni.
Get over Terry, you remind me of Trump harping on about Clinton still

Cavan were the highest scoring team in the country in the 2016 League under Terry. 8 Goals and 102 points, let's see if Mattie's Cavan can beat it.

Again, the obsessors are getting ahead of themselves in their rush to take digs at Terry. We've beaten Louth, Meath and Cork. That is nothing to write home about. Our subs bench mainly consists of completely unproven young lads. The last three games will give a true reflection of where the team are at. If Down beat us, all of a sudden Division 1 will seem a long way away. I really hope this isn't a false dawn, promotion to Division 1 would be a brilliant boost.

As far as I see lads who supported Terry want Mattie to succeed aswell. People just want what's best for the county. Let's see how last three games go as they are arguably our toughest.

Dead right Dora, irregardless of the next 3 games it's been an impressive showing so far and I'm both surprised and delighted by Mattie's tactics and set up. It's a shame we have Donegal in the 1st round as they are playing great stuff.

Should Cavan take 3 points from their remaining matches it would be safe to say they will be promoted

not neccessarly true RHF. if we end up with 9 Points there is no guarentee of promotion even if we beat one of Roscommon or Tipp.
If Tipp beat Down and Louth and lose to us , they will have 9 points.
If Roscommon beat : Clare,Cavan and Cork they will have 11 points.
If Meath beat Cork,Louth and Down then they are on 9 also.
so you would have 3 teams on 9 points and I believe it then goes to points difference.

As I am not sure who has to play who other that they all have to play Cavan I predicted 3 points so Cavan now know what they have to do so let's see how they handle it for sure it will be a sight of their maturity should they pull it off fingers crossed.

I am not sure it's that clear cut is it.
If Down beat Cavan Cavan will be on 7 Down will be on 6
If both Roscommon and Tipperary win they will be both on 7 and 6
Should Cork win they will be on 6
Should Cavan lose their remaining matches they stay in division 2
It would be fair to if the head to head does not come into play any of the 4 mentioned could get promotion so I feel Cavan need minimum 3 points from their 3 remaining matches.
If someone could tell me who has to play for their remaining matches we could try and work out the possibilities for the remainder of the league.
Fingers crossed we don't have to depend on others let's win promotion on merit.
