Allianz National Football League Div 2 2018

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Negatives: several silly and costly mistakes especially in the first half and some woeful shooting in front of posts which allowed them take a 5 point lead in at half time.

Positives:
1. Magee's free kick from distance in extra time, taken by a lad with minimal senior county experience, showed real steel.

2. Mackey, massive impact made when he came on almost had a hat trick of points within 5 minutes

3. Killian Clarke, showed well against a strong home midfield

4. Thomas Galligan (don't have to elaborate to anyone who was present)

5. The leadership and determination shown by captain and vice captain McVeety and Holla, they were a credit, got constant abuse but stood strong.

(Note) None of these positives can be accredited to the line but it is reassuring to know there are lads out there that care about the jersey.

I don't think it's unreasonable for players playing cans training constantly for 11 months to take a 2/3 month break. Especially any player over 30.
That has really nothing to do with commitment , it's called looking after their body.
Posters on here are quick to judge without knowing the facts.
Maybe get the facts right before posting

Was chatting with a young lad yesterday, plays on the County U17 panel. Currently training 3 times per week with County and twice with his school during the week, not to mention any sports he's involved in. No time to train with his club, despite the U17 competition starting this weekend coming. Apparently, the U17 manager is dictating to the County underage committee. So at 16/17 yrs of age, a player is asked to train 5 times per week, with an odd challenge match in between.

Now take your average Cavan Senior player, he's asked to train 3/4 times per week, play a match on the weekend, work his normal day job, and in alot of cases, travel up and down for training. And thats before the club football has commenced.

So please, dont question any players commitment to the cause, and more importantly, do not criticise any player that refuses to give 100% commitment.

Its all that is wrong with the modern game, amateur players being asked to train like a professional despite not been treated as one. The game will never be professional, as there are not enough players to do so, so the GAA need to start looking at ways of limiting training or competitions. Get rid of the National League and play championship football only.

And what would replace the league as preparation for the Championship? Months of challenge games?

They are reducing the inter county season. The league is now wrapped up by April. the all Ireland final brought forward 3 weeks ,and will probably be moved towards to August bank holiday in future.

A more condensed calendar plenty of time for club football.

As for the camp, there's nothing but harmony in the camp - there was a full turn out for training on Christmas Day...how many clubs did that?"
All I will say is you are wrong.i know someone very close to the team.they had charity blitz st Stephens day. I'll not enlighten you just yet on who my money is on but they are training very very hard and have 2 new acquisitions.i put a nice bet on the gaels after their relegation playoff the year before to come back and win the title and they didn't let me down.eyeball

Does anyone remember LMFAO with " I'm sexy and I know it " ?

We LMFAO is appropriate after the performances so far this year and the lyrics should be changed to " We're brutal and I know it "

OMG we have really set our sights low when we are pleased with a draw to Clare !!. No disrespect to them, but they are a traditional hurling county with football taking second place in the pecking order.

I can't blame lads who didnt commit due to personal , work or college commitments, but what the present team shows is that we have no dept of talent in the county.

We are a div 3 team no matter how we big ourselves up. Come championship there will be lads on here talking up a mediocre team who are in for a hammering against Donegal.

Lets face facts here, we will be in the same category as Carlow, Clare, Leitrim, Louth etc for years to come. Lower division football, win a few rounds of the qualifiers and threaten to do the devil and all in the Mc Kenna cup.

Football in the county has been system focused and the natural talent of players has been stifled. No natural forwards, no players who can turn a game with natural ability. Its a system and the system is failing us.

Not one of our players would make the starting team in any of the main contenders for honours.

Back to basics .... Its a case of putting a ten year plan into place. Put up with Div 3 for a while and start developing natural players at club level, Start at the U12, 14 and 16 age groups and work with them for the next ten years.

Keep a core group of 40 to 50 going and not just those who make the minor team as we have been doing for years.

We are letting players slip through by blinkered vision. Keep our options open. Keep a and B squads training , working on skills and not a system.

Then we have a pool of players with natural ability to pick from. Then we can start looking at promotion, them we can start challenging for championship honours.

It's a suggestion, because to be honest, the present set up and the present squad are nothing to get excited about, no matter how you big them up !!

They can keep it running until we develop a squad(s) of players with natural ability !!

Reading the Louth forum they seemed to be on top around the middle against Down, but their shooting let them down. They won't want a another defeat as they would be looking at Division 3, with Roscommon.,Cork, Tip yet to play

Stop listening to stories my man wait and see how things proceed. Everyone said Mackey was gone I could have sworn he played Saturday. Everyone said M Reilly was gone we now know as stated above he is training with the panel. Just wait and see my man I am sure by the time the national league is completed you will know the full panel. I heard Galligan who came on was not involved yet as you saw he played Saturday.
Just be patient wait and see and stop listening to stories.

Mackey was gone. Only agreed to come back in recent weeks. Only a couple sessions done. People said Martin Reilly was taking a short break and nobody said anything about Galligan.

After such a great start it was a pitty alot of possession as wasted early on! Madden won his share of ball but nothing came of it and was left very isolated! There was a very strong wind but still some poor wides, moynaghs one really stands out. Pick of the back line for me was brady and philips.
Mid field was out of it but our kickouts didnt help there!
Ref was very poir in second half, one blatant over carry which led to a clare score was let go for example
Mackey and thomas galligan swung it in our favour and i thought it was plain sailing until galligans injury just broke momentum. Hopefully hes ok for southern gaels u21 game.
Thought mckiernan got a raw deal, very poor ball played in when him and magee were inside!
2points essential against louth and hopefully the likes of the martin rielly, 2 murrays, big g, mackey, buhcanan can filter in over the coming weeks for cork, tipp, down, rossie games

I played in the charity blitz St Stephens Day, the pitch was a bit cut up from the training the day before, but all in all, there was a good turn out and a testament to the hard work going on behind the scenes in the Club. The club is united and I have no doubt they will the next few senior finals at their ease.

Didn't see it that way. Magee and McKiernan are not mobile enough to play in a 2 man FF line. Why the two of them are left in there and Caoimhin O Reilly is running around in midfield I don't know. Sure the ball in wasnt brilliant but them two lads need it bang on top of them due to lack of mobility.

Mackey was gone, only back because he doesnt want Cavan in Div 3 next year. Reilly took time off for his wedding and honeymoon. I have Mattie is replaced for next year....there are too many gone from the squad and backroom team since last year, its obvious what the problem is
