Replying To Gleebo:  "As far as I know, Belfast was never a part of Dublin and wasn't transferred to Antrim solely for the benefit of a local MP's business interests. So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that your analogy is a rather inaccurate one which is merely intended to get a reaction.

You've already been caught out once on this thread..."
Ballagh was of course once part of County Mayo.We know the history.I've no problem with someone from Ballaghderrreen playing for Mayo. However, if somebody from Ballaghderreen County Roscommon wants to play for Roscommon and is good enough they should be so entitled. That's a fair solution to divided loyalties. The Gaa just needs to show a bit of imagination.

Sure Dermot Earley senior was a Mayo man. Technically!

It matters little where the player is from, once the player is playing within the rules of the GAA. I am sure
Andy is living and working in Mayo, that should be good enough to play for Mayo. Players from KIldare have
won All-Ireland medals with Cork and players from Limerick have won All-Ireland medals with Kerry and
it has not lessened the significance of the wins one iota. Many people move to different counties
througout their lifetime, so there is a need to be flexible. There is a big emigrant community in the country so
if these are to be encouaged to play GAA, the idea of making an issue of where the person was born or
the nationality of their parents will not help.

I don't think you understand the situation here. Andy Moran can be born, go to school, live and work in County Roscommon and still be eligible to play for Mayo. It is nothing like the Tomkins Fahy situation where the players moved to live in Cork

This is confusing Tom Parsons is in the same boat a Sligo man playing for Mayo, what is the story with you lot?"
Tell you what, Clondalkindub, if the stars align next season and Dublin are drawn away to Mayo in the Super 8s, then you may have occasion to travel through Ballaghaderreen on your way down to Castlebar. The town got a bypass a couple of years back, but it won't be much of a detour for you. Have a look at the surroundings in the Market Square and see if everything's as clear-cut as you think ;)

As for Parsons, he and his brothers grew up playing for Charlestown, which is in Mayo. I believe that Sligo did want him, but he chose to play for Mayo.

This sort of thing isn't as rare and exotic as some people like to think, btw- Ballinderry Shamrocks are one of the most successful football clubs in Ireland, but a decent chunk of their hinterland is in Co. Tyrone. I'm told that Enda Muldoon, for example, would have grown up in the Tyrone part but always played for Derry. Similar situation with Moneygall which is in Co. Offaly but play their hurling in Tipperary.

Neither is this sort of thing one way- Mayo lost the likes of Alan Costello, James Kilcullen (also from Ballagh) to Sligo, Padraig Brogan to Donegal for a season.

A teacher of mine once said that Ardnaree (which is in North Mayo, club of the famous Joe Corcoran) was also once transferred from Sligo to Mayo for local admin purposes, though this must have been a long time ago now.

Yeah, that's fair enough and I wouldn't object to it myself, but I believe a proposal was voted on some years ago and the other Connacht counties voted against it. Maybe if the winds have changed in the meantime, the Rossies can push for a similar vote again.

I'd say the Tom Parsons thing is a Dean Rock type scenario

If you look at a bit of club history- then you fill find that Andy's club was in Co Mayo (1884) and then a landlord came along and got the map changed for financial reasons - now would you go along with the landlord or would you do the correct thing and stay as you were. I see no difficulty with the situation, now I am not for players switching all over the place maybe- playing for 4 or 5 different clubs.

Dermot Earley and Andy Moran were both born in a hospital outside of Roscommon and today we have no maternity ward in the county making every child born technically not Roscommon? . What both Earley and Moran have in common is they were educated in Roscommon and kicked their first football in Roscommon. If Andy had the opportunity to play for Roscommon like the late Dermot did he would but the Ballagh club don't allow you to do that and Andy wasn't going to leave his home town club. Then without going into detail the St Johns club in Ballagh we tried to set up in the 90s was knocked down by pure politics.

Only slagging. Dermot Senior is a Roscommon legend, many's the Sunday he ruined on me in the 70s. I'm proud to say Paul Earley went to same school as me in Ballyhaunis, before I was there. Saw him play on a great schools team.

Replying To Laois76:  "But they should be able to train to peak twice a year like many teams. Too many games next year won't help i feel.

I know this will sound disrespectful to Roscommon and Galway but i don't think ye can take on the Dubs. I know you (Ros) have a lot of players to come back.

The team that will emerge from the pack will be Kerry i'd say! They just know how to win all-irelands. To win in 2014 with an average, by Kerry's standards, team.

If Dublin do 4 in a row fair play to them. It's going to be tough next year."
You're right, Roscommon and Galway are nowhere near Dublin (or Mayo) at their peak. I was in the Davin Stand for both Ros v Mayo games and was shocked at the difference between the two games. Mayo upped their running to All Ireland Final pace that day. All I could see was wave after wave of Mayo attack coming down that end in the first half. Roscommon had no answer. They're not up to that level of conditioning yet. Assuming they will stay together they may get there in 2/3 years. It's counties like my own who are showing promise and could take advantage of extra resources that should be getting them.
Andy Moran a great player. I was ashamed of the booing that was directed at him v Roscommon. It was a very small section of supporters in fairness. No amateur player deserves that

Wasnt a fan of the booing either but the farce that happened after it with Carney and co taking over the media crying about it was a disgrace altogether. They failed to mention the booing of Donie Smith in the same game which was equally as bad. And Dean Rock in the final. Same thing happened all year but god forbit when it happens to a Mayo player. Although there fans are well able to boo themselves
