Keith Duggan in today's Times reckons Tommy Lyons hit the nail on the head way back in 2002 " The country by and large loves Dublin to be there or thereabouts but don't want them winning anything. They like to keep them in isolation and that is what's happened. That's our tribal warfare and that's what keeps our association thriving." sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 674 - 23/09/2017 12:41:50 2049559 Link 0 |
gaa needs us to at least get to the semi final every year..this is no secret..a couple of replays would be no harm..and us winning leinster is also a positive thing for them

Why does the GAA "need" Dublin to get to the semi-final every year? And what would happen if they didn't?

financially...gates from attendances would go down....us getting to a semi gurantees a sell out pretty much..what other semi finals can draw a sell out?

I don't think it's a necessity but it does help the accounts. Without the dubs in a semi i'm fairly sure that the association would still be making a profit. Greed is the reason that the GAA wants the Dubs to make a semi each year. Anyway I can't see you not making a semi for the next few years so we won't have to worry. As for the original post I disagree entirely. I always like to see the Dubs do well. Dublin people are good, decent skins. I like to see them get over the line. gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 25/09/2017 10:16:05 2050203 Link 0 |
I love the stereotype a lot of Dublin fans seem to have that the country folk all hate them. It's hilarious really. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1327 - 25/09/2017 10:51:02 2050222 Link 1 |
To be honest until recently of course Dublin were the England equivalent. They built up a massive hype nearly every year, walking through the naughties with 6 Leinster titles and Zero All-Ireland's and year after year being tipped for Sam by the Media and never lived up to expectations. its nothing got to do with the jersey or the people in it. I love the dubs they're a great bit of craic. same as Mayo people etc etc. the point about always wanting them at arms length is wrong because a lot of people took joy in Dublin winning in 2011 including myself, why? simply because they hadn't won it in so long and it was great to see a new team come along. theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 414 - 25/09/2017 11:19:26 2050244 Link 0 |
Of course it's not a necessity but let's not pretend that it's not in the gaas interest for us to be going well
