If he clenched his fist, jumped up and down, ran to the hill. or said any comments even insinuating an air of arrogance, this place would go into overdrive. I think the slating he gets for being quiet and humble is the lesser of two evils. Likewise I admire Brian Cody as a manager but wish he would break into song now and then when being interviewed. Terrible that these top managers take a poker face attitude to interviews and give nothing away.

I read the article at the weekend and thought it was just Dunphy being sour about soccer being poor and trying to grab some limelight for himself.
My thoughts were, these lads are as fit a any professional team, they don't have to be paid to play the game and they are ambassadors for their clubs, county and the GAA in general.
That was until yesterday, when my thoughts were muddied by one or two of last weeks winning mens team. I went to Croker to support my niece who was playing for Fermanagh. I enjoyed the three games, the skill levels and the athmosphere. Leaving the ground there was a bunch of Dublin players who has won the AI last week and were there to support the ladies. But as we were leaving there was one or two chanting " Cheerio" down at the Mayo supporter.
I thought it was very unsporting, arrogant and disgusting. They may be champions, but some are not sportsmen. They won't continue winning forever and they will taste defeat in the championship.

I think that given your user name I'll take that story with a pinch of salt.

I have to say Mes I was supporting them and they certainly have their supporters in Belfast.

I was one of the ABD's for a long time but JG and the current crop of players come across as personable and grounded to me, in fact dare I say modest even!

They have certainly contributed to my Damascene moment!!

user name refers to my job as a chef.
I supported Dublin over the past few years and admired their style and approach.
That one incident by approx 2 players, one who played really well shall we say in the final, spoiled the day and left me with no respect for the individuals

Sorry but this sounds rubbish to me... unless you have it on a clip, this has to be BS. The very idea that players, in this age of camera phones, will openly laugh at fans (mostly made up of youngsters) is just ludricous.

From my experience the Anyone But Dublin brigade isn't as strong in Belfast or Antrim in general I think.

That's just been my experience so could be very much wrong!

To be fair to Cody though you watch him at the end of any of his teams all ireland victories and he's dancing around like a lunatic on the sideline as if it was his first.

Exactly my take on it too. Considering that they had been shown half a dozen times on the big screen to suggest that they would then lean out of a corporate box to abuse kids knowing full well that they were being watched all day is a bit of a stretch.

Maybe so but does he say anything of interest in his interviews or should he be expected to? I would say that less than 10% of all sportsmen say anyhing interesting or thought provoking during interviews. The 10% who do are the ones who find themselves open to a lot of grief.

Most of the time journalists are the cause of this approach from players and managers.
They give them anything and it is turned into a big deal splashed across the paper or online media and then when they speak and say nothing they can't understand it and start this rubbish that Dunphy and Kimmage are at.
Most managers are guarded and don't give much away purely for that reason and that ain't going to change.

Seemingly crumbs of snippets from any source is enough for some punters to believe whatever crap they want.

It's really your word and whether posters choose to believe you and you don't have an agenda.

Either you are lying. Misinterpreted what you heard. Or telling the truth. If telling the truth i hope it's an isolated incident with one or two players as it's unsavoury. However out of a panel of 30 players from any county you won't find 30 choir boys.

Sign of the times if Kerry fans are clinging onto poorly crafted gossip rather than real GAA talk. If it makes you feel better, believe it and quote at will.
