Laois's new football manager-The man people wanted

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Laois have confirmed their new manager as John Sugrue from Kerry who is married and living in Laois for the last number of years...

He ended up being a number two under Justin McNulty when Laois had good success back in 2012/2013

He was wanted for a few years but knocked back the job on two occasions

He appointed the experienced Brian Stack from Kerry as his number 2

Living here locally I feel this is a great appointment and Laois will start to make progress under this man .

Back them for Division 4 now!

John Sugrue is a good choice.

He's well respected in Portlaoise and hopefully we'll get more of their players on the panel.

He will have a big task in panel selection as some of the older crew will have to move on. Huge job for him overall.

A Kerryman in charge of Offaly footballers, and now Laois do the same. Things could be stirring in the Midlands! Hope Laois do well with the new man.

I was about to say the last time we had a Kerryman in charge things worked out well!! And then i remembered Liam Kearns spell here! In fairness to Liam Laosi was the only county he hasn't done really well in. Got us to the 2007 Leinster final.

In fairness it is not as if the people you mentioned are Kerry natives themselves. They just have Kerry in their blood line. Sure Kevin McMenamin's Mum is from Galway. Ciaran Kilkenny's grandfather is the late great Sean Purcell. Conal Keaney has one if not both his parents from Galway and Kevin Moran the Waterford hurler has a Galway father.

Of course your not! That's the Dubs silly. We all love Kerry.

By the way any chance we could get David Clifford on loan? We still have a few safe houses above in the Galtees, would be happy to hide him from the Aussies for a couple of years for ye!

Yeah Laois public need to relax ...A lot of them were spoilt in the late 90s and early 2000s with the players they had coming through at all grades now it has dried up a little they tend to get impatient .

Still talent there but a few lads the wrong side of 30 but surely a good manager with a committed squad could get something out of players like Brody Attride Quigley Begley O'Loughlin Kingston and Cahillanne

Really hope this new manager can turn things around. The senior players especially need to give him 100% support. In recent years the fans too have desserted the team big time even for home games. Miss the intense rivalry we had with both Laois and Offaly neighbours, would love to be bantering with both sets of supporters again.
