Well done to Kerry. In the semi-final already.

Like Mayo last year I think the more matches you play the better and fitter you get. Therefore I expect Tyrone and Monaghan to do well in the super 8. Dublin and Kerry should go through but the last weekend could see two great games with Galway v Monaghan and Donegal v Tyrone playing for semi final places.

Its an excellent point, will be interesting to see how the qualifiers get on.

I wonder is a case to be made for a better route through the qualifiers rather then winning your provincial.

Take Donegal and Tyrone, arguably they Tyrone have been dealt with a nicer run through the S8s then Donegal. That said the qualifiers is a lucky dip.

So big Mickey you don't see an away game against a battle hardened Monaghan for a young and inexperienced Kerry team as a problem then?

A Monaghan team that beat this very Kerry team only 4/5 months ago in inniskeen?

I think we have a lot more than Galway to worry about to be honest.

Looking forward to a couple of big surprises this weekend in the super 8s
Monaghan to win , Roscommon to win , Kerry v Galway to draw , Dublin to win comfortably .
Would have liked if the donegal motion for the dubs to name a home fixture was done , in fairness there a class team but all other county's have to play home away & neutral.

Do posters think some of the Super 8 games might end up in draws? If its level going into the final few minutes teams could decide to take the draw.

Replying To kiloughter:  "Point taken in relation to the question you pose. But i would suggest that aside from Dublin all teams have question marks including your own. I just get a sense that we are not to be trusted. Does not really bother me and can totally understand why Kildare fans for example are getting giddy given their turn in fortunes. If i was a Lily i probably would as well. Serious turnaround but am not hugely surprised as Kildare have not come overnight. We beat them in the 2013 u21 all ireland semi but you could see then they had a few players that would blossom at senior. Our progression has been very consistent and remember we have beaten a really good Rossie team who themselves have similar ambitions to ourselves. Actually ourselves and the Rossies mirror each other in our development. i.e. gradual development, some bad blips along the road but curve very much upwards. Between your fellow county person Dick Clerkin and a whole host of others the Connacht final has been one of where one team lost it rather than a team winning it."
Agree with you on that. Kildare lost 5 players from either that U21 team or the minor team in the same year to professional sport (D Flynn, P Cribbin, P Brophy, Feely , S Hurley) straight after that season. All are back with the exception of Hurley who has issues with hip trouble. I think kildare are really gelling well as a team now and will power on from the past few performances. Monaghan beat us by a point in the league when we had no free taker. Kildare will be well up for this game now and i cant wait for it as it promises to be a great contest.

Tyrone v Roscommon is a very intriguing game and a tough one to call. Big fan of the way Roscommon play plus have lots of time for McStay as a manager. For me a very tough game to call.

Unfortunately after going about our business quite quietly the hype train has got out of the bag for Donegal. Really enjoyed watching how we have played but in truth the real acid tests start tomorrow. However without Paddy McB I just cannot see anything but a reasonably comfortable win for Dublin. I don't think our runners will have the same spaces to run into with Paddy's movement and the opponents markers that he takes out of the game. I think Dublin have the pacey players down the middle to possibly expose our defense which is a worry. One thing I do fancy here is goals so anybody who likes a punt should be looking at the over 2.5 goals market something I would consider for the Tyrone v Roscommon game also.

Again a tricky game to call between Monaghan and Kildare. No doubt Monaghan have had a handy passage to get this far where Kildare have been far more road tested. I was keen to take on Monaghan overall from a punting perspective but there is a nagging doubt about how Kildare perform in Croke Park. Saying that I am going to go with a Kildare win here to set up a huge game against Galway the following week.

Finally Galway and Kerry in what I am expecting to be a tight tussle. Kerry were so so impressive against Cork but of course that form took quite a knock given how pitiful Cork performed last weekend. Saying that I am very excited about David Clifford and love the look of the Kerry full forward line. Plus with a back to form David Moran pulling the strings they are an exciting prospect. However Galway have defied the odds all year. I believe in 11 games this year they have defied the bookies handicap on each occasion which is some going although they were very fortunate to do it against Roscommon. They also have the direct runners who can give the Kerry defense alot of problems which I think means they will defy the hcp of 3/4 points and maybe even win it. However I fancy Kerry to just shade it but also would not rule out a draw.

They'd be very foolish if they did since if teams end up with the same number of points the head to head result counts first before score difference comes into play. If there is an opportunity to win a game it should be taken for that reason

Hope the Rossies dont become the whipping boys of the super 8s and can give a proper
account of themselves against Donegal.
Tyrone though look very impressive and are improving game by game.

The super 8s are going to do nothing more than confirm that status quo.
Dublin
Kerry
Monaghan
Tyrone
Donegal
Galway
Kildare
And if we needed evidence of this just look at today's results. You can put the teams in whatever order you like but I would say Galway and Kildare will not make it out of our group and Donegal and Roscommon will not go through.

You're good for a laugh I'll give you that, Galway will beat Monaghan handy enough, so will Kerry and Kildare.
I think we won't see real good championship games till the Dublin v Galway and Donegal v Kerry semi finals!!

Yeah the status quo of Monaghan being the 3rd best team in Ireland. Based on what exactly??

I made a serious point a few days ago there would be some big beatings in the Super8s. Of course the supporters of the weaker counties took the hump and accused me of bitterness. but tonight proved me at least half right. Tomorrow will follow suit.
the problem is structural- round robin series in other sports all happen at start of tournaments not the end. we should be in the end-game series now with big teams playing knockout tournament football.

Places cannot be guessed until at least tomorrow evening. I read somewhere during the week ( not from a pundit) that the teams coming from the qualifiers are fitter and I have to say there's a lot of truth in that. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
