Prior to 2003, how many Senior All Ireland's had a Tyrone team won?! MH brought through a golden generation of players, and found the right experience and quality waiting to mix them with. The result was, 3 Sam Maguire wins. Since this time, MH has kept Tyrone relatively competitive. He has with the help of Club Tyrone put in place the most impressive facilities in the country, which would not be out of place in a professional sporting set up. MH has brought home 3 AL's, however his real work will be seen in 20 years time. He has built a football dynasty, and ensured Tyrone will continue to be a footballing superpower for years to come. Tyrone people forget about pre 2003, it could be argued anybody could have coached that golden team to an AL, what impresses me most about MH is the forward thinking and ensuring the county build on it. Lets be frank, the current Senior team are very average, but remaining in Division.1, winning Ulster titles and playing in Croke Park is all part of ensuring the interest, and funding continues. Dropping down the leagues, and playing a few matches a year would do damage. For Tyrone, I say this is the right decision, this is far from a golden generation. They are the best of.a bad province, but there is no AL in Tyrone over the next 3/5 years, so better to allow the dynasty to be built for future success now, instead of taking a gamble, which could not result in anymore success anyhow.

MH is obviously very well respected in Tyrone and the GAA in general but you would have to ask how many other managers would still be in the job if they weren't MH.
Undoubtedly, those 3 AI in the Noughties were the golden years for Tyrone with great players bringing so much succes. That's what he will be remembered for but at this stage if I was a Tyrone supporter I'd be concerned that we've lost our way a bit and can't make the break from that hope of a return to those times with MH in charge.
Doubt very much that there's anyone in Tyrone GAA whose held in such high regard and perhaps no natural successor is part of the problem.

Harte deserves to stay if he wants to after all his success. However, if he doesn't become more attack oriented, at least against the top teams, there is no point in him continuing. It may take a few years to get the balance right, but Tyrone need to be showing progress each year in that regard.

The balance isn't far off, because aside from not having won an All Ireland since 2008, he has still managed Tyrone to 4 x Ulster Championships since then (2009, 2010, 2016, 2017), and have also reached All Ireland Semi finals in 2013, 2015 and 2017, however its their failure at this stage that has led to the questioning of Mickey Harte's ability to continue managing Tyrone seniors. In part they are correct to at least ask such questions, no doubt the people of Kerry would be asking them too.

For me the actual issue is the type of player in the Tyrone panel, while Tyrone have an abundance of very talented players, the current bunch lack the arrogance and grit of that exceptional team of the 2000's. Most who faced them back then would tell you many of them were a bunch of pr$$ks on the field. These current boys are a bit too nice.
