Well done to Dublin. Another classic. One of the finest games I've had the pleasure of attending. It was so intense for the 80 minutes. I haven't really processed the game in it's entirety yet. Today is worse than yesterday. Its hitting home hard today. Weary (None) - Posts: 249 - 19/09/2017 11:01:01 2047947 Link 0 |
Silly reply, as in the main population feeds into the subset of players playing. For example the chances of becoming a professional athlete in the usa lies somewhere between 1 in 100,000 and 2 in 100,000. Depending on what state you are from. So for example Dublin can garner 13 athletes of this ability per year. Where as mayo can garner 1. whatever. Multiply this by a 10 year playing window. This leaves dublin with 130 to mayo's 10. What we have to realize is that numbers do matter. But why split Dublin. Why not merge other counties. Secondly, and this needs to be considered is the difference between having excellent structures and mediocre structures such as coaching admin etc... only results in the ability to generate 1 more athlete per 100,000 in the states. Is there any reason we should think that our own country is immune to this statistic and that Leitrim, cavan, offaly, longford, louth , sligo can even compete. Its not their coaching as the margins to benefits ratio is actually small. It's through the subset of sheer playing volume. Figures above are verifiable!

Agreed mate, he did a terrific job on Kilkenny the last day, the trouble was Connolly had the freedom of Croke park when he came on. I watched the game back last night and Connolly became Dublin main play maker got a point and won the free to win it. If only you had a team of Lee Keegans. It was another one of those small margins that i think turned the game in Dublin favour.

@TheFlaker: "You can't constantly foul throughout a game in a position that he plays". Now that is rubbish. dubdec99 (Dublin) - Posts: 180 - 19/09/2017 13:12:20 2048045 Link 0 |
Wow rubbish from both sets of supporters yet what you seen and didn't see is gospel? What about AOS 30 seconds into second half? Black card all day. Cillian O'Connor constantly body checking Dublin players off the ball trying to stop their runs, and constantly badgering the referee, at one stage the ref had to tell him to shut up and go away. Mayo players are all angels in your eyes and the Dublin players are cynical. Is that it? That's your slant?

Before Sunday the highest percentage of of chances taken by a winning team in the modern era finals was 60 per cent. Mayo took 59 per cent and still lost. Dublin 67 per cent! Dublin put to the pin of their collar and they come up with a record breaking stat to get over the line. It's a hard life for the Mayo lads! Nope didn't overcarry. The lad is a class act, a pleasure watching him play the game. .

Lol you obviously don't know any of my previous posts if you think I am totally biased for Mayo. I was responding to a one sided post the other way. I am defo not a biased poster. Enjoyed your post though, very dramatic stuff.

The narrative before the game from most neutrals and experts was that Dublins stronger bench would see them over the line. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 19/09/2017 22:02:29 2048324 Link 2 |
Well said, spoken like a man, and the best of luck to you next year as well. it's up to the rest of us to lift our game to be able to match Dublin. Mayo and Kerry will be the biggest threat to them next year again. if we could just manage to win Ulster again it would be brilliant. Either you don't know the rules, your sight is bad, your internet connection is freezing or you had the same maths teacher as Joe McQuillan. For what it's worth, four steps are allowed, not seven.

Sad to hear Jack McCaffery did his cruicate in the final on Sunday, innital prognosis is he will miss the league and much of Lenister next year. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 20/09/2017 10:30:10 2048454 Link 0 |
Sorry to hear about Jack McCaffrey's injury. Even with the big squad his ability will be missed. Pericles (Mayo) - Posts: 2521 - 20/09/2017 17:46:37 2048681 Link 1 |
Can anyone give an opinion as to whether Dublin improved their kick-out strategy dramatically in the second half or did Mayo lower their concentration/intensity in dealing with Dublin's kick-outs? A lot more short kicks gained possession with less challenge in second half in my estimation. cjx (Tyrone) - Posts: 270 - 20/09/2017 18:25:24 2048694 Link 0 |
Genuinely sorry to hear that he is a tremendous talent and a nice lad I believe. It's no longer a career ending injury thankfully.

Explains why he was lashing the gargle down quicker down everyone else.... ah no, that's put a dampener on things. Actually felt his impact was noticeable when he went off. Was looking very good up to that point, Never gave a thought to the extent of the injury, was hoping it was nothing serious but unfortunately not.

Bit of both. Mayo were dead on their get at the end and would have been even worse if they pressed for the whole game. It gave them a foothold at half time but they should have been further ahead with the dominance they had.
