I honestly think there is a bit of reverse Yerra about it, trying to bbuild up the Dubs and gee up Mayo.

The Dublin players could be in danger of having psychologically peaked (not even sure that's a real term but you know what I mean) after the Tyrone game and if even a little of the nonsense being spouted in the media about being the greatest Dubs team seeps into their psyche, they will lose. dubdec99 (Dublin) - Posts: 180 - 12/09/2017 11:27:27 2045180 Link 0 |

If it wasn't for Aidan O'Shea selfishly posing for few photo's with kids after a challenge game a few months ago Mayo would surely be heavy favourites for most people. if_in_doubt (Kildare) - Posts: 3685 - 12/09/2017 11:46:10 2045197 Link 1 |
Sean Kavanagh and Tomas O'Se have been really over the top with their praise for this Dublin team over the last couple of weeks. if_in_doubt (Kildare) - Posts: 3685 - 12/09/2017 11:48:57 2045200 Link 0 |

Dublin is a serious obstacle for Mayo to overcome no doubt , but Cavanagh blatantly refuses to look at his own teams shortcomings that brutal beating that day. Maybe it was a ploy to take the heat off Harte , and push the focus straight back on the Dublin team in order to help get him re-instated back into the tyrone set-up for next years campaign. Harte has been given a three year extension which happened before Cavanagh made those remarks. Tyrone are a decent side, they are young and will likely improve by next year. FOB (Dublin) - Posts: 912 - 12/09/2017 12:13:43 2045213 Link 0 |
Mickey Harte said after the 2016 final that Tyrone would have beaten Dublin, they got their chance 2 weeks ago and failed to show up, they are hyping up Dublin now to take the pressure off themselves, I mean in all honestly they were a farce, not 1 hand was laid on a Dublin player until they got inside the Tyrone 45m line and even then it was a slap on the back from other Dublin players congratulating on another fine score, Sean Cavanagh is one of our country's finest players but I'm afraid he's talking bull. Dublin are a serious outfit but Tyrone didn't even put up a challenge. The biggest issue is how poor was this years Ulster championship, Tyrone won 2 in a row which is extremely rare for an Ulster county to do, there was 3 teams in the mix for the title but Monaghan failing miserably to Down and Donegal giving up after 20 mins against Tyrone which inflated their victory made winning Ulster easy enough for Tyrone, the quarter final against Armagh was always going to be a win for Tyrone so their big challenge was the game v Dublin which sadly they failed to show up, even when they looked like being hammered they still didn't change their game plan which had holes in it like a sieve. Dublin have reached the final without breaking sweat which means either Dublin are a massively powerhouse and will be for years to come or their opponents in the past year are poor, Sunday will tell, either this Mayo team are the real deal or another poor opposition riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 12/09/2017 12:58:03 2045230 Link 0 |
He remarked that dublin were the greatest team ever on the day they took that pasting at croker.. Hes just continued his theory during the buildup. Vishred (Mayo) - Posts: 303 - 12/09/2017 13:09:54 2045232 Link 0 |
That's what makes Sean's remarks so weird. It's an open admission that Tyrone's defeat was not tactically caused, or just a systems failure on the day, but an unbridgeable gap in class. Does make you wonder about his agenda. If he was a Kerryman I know what we'd all be thinking. Then again the bookies odds fairly well concur, so our lads know they'll need an 80 minute performance on Sunday. I believe Cian O'Sullivan will be marked, but not by Aidan O'Shea. Why are so many Mayo lads annoyed that Sean Cav said this Dubs team is the best team ever....why is this bothering ye?? Liamwalkinstown (Dublin) - Posts: 8166 - 12/09/2017 14:24:30 2045260 Link 0 |
I'm seriously thinking of giving the lower Cusack ticket to the Dublin nephew at this stage, at least he might get some enjoyment out of it. I have never seen a quieter build up to a final involving my own county. Normally the final is the topic on everyones lips but this year I find that people don't even want to talk about it. The only one I've met that gives us any hope is a friend of mine who thinks that if Mayo play at 50% above their best and the Dubs 50% below theirs we might get within a point or two. Now this is a lad who does the lottery every week and is only amazed when he doesn't win. True the businesses have their signs out, for obvious reasons, there are plenty of flags about, most of them still there from previous years and the kids, in their innocence, are upbeat but out from that, silence. I was going to write a song myself, "O the red and black of Mayo, I can see it on the Hill" but my pencil broke and anyway I don't want to be famous as I value my anonymity. Even the lads in the paper are flogging a dead horse, half-heartedly trying to make a case for Mayo. They say things like, Mayo are peaking at the right time, or Dublin haven't been tested, before finishing off by saying Dublin will win by five or six points. And don't get me started on the star struck Sean Cavanagh! I even read an article by a lad the other day who prefaced the line saying "Mayo had a chance" with the words "people will think I'm mad". Even the Dubs lads, despite some grumblings about Mayo being a dirty team with a propensity for diving, are just going through the motions until they can begin the celebrations. Liam hasn't opened a thread on Lee Keegan not being good enough to make the Dubs squad, Jackeen is at home polishing the All Ireland medals and Jimbo is... well... bearable. Even the much loved Ciarán and his merry band of ex players don't feel the need to get involved, sure so what if Mayo keep all their players on the field, it might at least keep it interesting....for a while. And Jim, the man with the plan, will start off with the kids and when the job is done he'll bring on the big lads for their lap of honour. So now you can see why I'm contemplating the unthinkable. The nephew doesn't know Bernard Brogan from Bernard Dunne but sure he'll be in good company and at least he'll be able to say he was there when the Dubs won their three in a row! I know the point you are making mate, but do you really think Dublin have any questions to answer or anything to prove? I mean Dublin have won 4 of the last six all Ireland's going for a fifth on Sunday, they have also won 4 NFL titles and beat the all time unbeaten record in league and championship, they are unbeaten in the championship in almost three years. How anyone can say Dublin haven't been tested or proven is beyond me. Surely the emphasis in on Mayo to prove that they are a top team who can win an all Ireland, as good a team as they are, they haven't achieved an all Ireland or even a national title in the life cycle of this team. There is really no comparison in proof or questions that need to be answered. Dont get me wrong, i think Mayo have a wonderful chance on Sunday, probably their best since 2012. I agree with you a lot of the Kavanagh and O Se stuff, is borderline cringey or reverse yerra. But i dont really see how Mayo are battle hardened or have been tested. I think they have struggled in a lot of games, Derry, Cork, Roscommon, Clare and of course beaten by Galway, they have conceeded an awful lot of socres in those games. Even in the semi final they failed to capatialise on an at sea Kerry defense the first day and coughed up scores of 2:14 and 0:17 against, if you do that against Dublin there is no Sam heading West. So have Mayo really been tested? They labored against lower Div teams, are Roscommon better then Mongahan? Kerry better then Tyrone, alot of the Kerry lads have said this is their weakest team in a generation? Jury out on all of the above. Mayo could well win Sam on Sunday, but for me they are going into the game with it all to prove, Dublin are in bonus territory with over 50 Celtic crosses in the team and panel, that wont make them less focused or humble, but the Dublin way is to respect everyone fear no one. They wont hold the fear or pressure of coming up short, great team status has already been established and this decade will always be Dublins. So when people talk about being tested or having to prove, my god but do Mayo have all the questions that need to be answered. Best of Luck to them and lets hope for a brilliant game and to all our western cousins making the trip. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 12/09/2017 14:34:06 2045263 Link 2 |

not as relevant anymore, posters gone, players retired etc etc _________________________________________________________________________ T'was the night before Sunday and all through the town, No one was sleeping, no one was down, The stockings were hung by the chimney with care In the hopes that Sam, might soon be there The children were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of Bernard scored in their heads. Herself in her pj's and I in the nip Had just settled down for a small bit of kip When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter Seany16 was there throwing stones Wayno was hammered abusing his phone The heavens had opened, the lads they were soaked "waynos on HS" I bet you, I joked When what to my wondering eyes should appear But Jimbo and Jackeen, and they full of beer With a little old driver so lively and rough Well I knew in a moment, it must be ol Snuf, More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came And he whistled and he shouted and he called them by name "On Dubby, on Damo, on Culann and Navy, On Dubupnorth,, Witnof,, HurlingDub and Davy! To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall Now, dash away, dash away, dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the Big match they fly When they meet to an obstacle mount to the sky So up to the rooftop the coursers they flew With a sack full of jerseys and MesAmis too. I opened the door, and ushered them in, The lads they were nervous so I said with a grin We've been here before, theres nothing to Fear But Liamo they cried, Andy Moran is near "I hear Aidan O'Shea, he sleeps with a ball, And Cillian O.Connor isn't injured atall Donal Vaughan has a book about Ciaran Kilkenny He tears out the pages and ates them with Jelly" "James Horan has sheep that he keeps in a shed Like the Mayo attack, a lively lot, but, no more to be said Enda Varley can open a can with his teeth Alan Freeman drinks coolant to keep out the heat These Mayo men are hard, they hardly break sweat, They know how to stick a size five in the net, The sight of a Dub holds for them no fear But there's something we have, that they would hold dear See we have the medals, we know how its done, Until 73 minutes, the game is not won How will they feel with seconds to go, When Bernard is running with K-Mac in tow Their defence, it will tire and leave us a hole, For Diarmuid to play a quick ball fast and low Paul Mannion will gather, and quick he will turn The net it will burst, Mayo will burn So fear not young Dubs, this game we will win The All Ireland is ours, we will never give in Mayo will come, and mayo will go But Dublin will stand and acclaim its Hero The gang they all listened, all bristled with pride Clondalkin was crying and holding his sides Navy was nodding and agreeing with all Dublin would win, Mayo would fall Enjoy this Sunday, for these days are rare 32 other counties wish there were there, Dublin and Mayo, to you both I wish luck, But only one county can win in my book Jimbo gathered the troops, satisfied and content, They loaded into the hiace and off home they all went But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight, Happy Sunday to all, and to all, a good night….
