Dublin v Mayo. Who will win the 2017 All Ireland football final?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Love to see Mayo win and they will bring something different but the Dublin team I saw yesterday look as if they were playing within themselves and maybe are the greatest team to play the game.

Mayo have regressed over the last 2 years.. lets be honest they beat an awful kerry side. Have to admire mayos belief but i cant see anythimg other than a dublin victory by about 8 points

A Kerry side lauded after league final and Munster final. Who was calling them awful before the first game? Nobody.

Replying To Fionn:  "Mayo have the momentum and seem to have the bit between their teeth but this Dublin team are definitely better, faster, and fresher than last year.

Hopefully we will peak at the right time and the extra break they got in Jan-March will stand to them.
Last year we were out on our feet and there for the taking for sure.

We have not had the fright that Mayo have had this year and not been thoroughly tested.

That will change in the final though.

Gonna be some game...."
Agree; it should be a belter. I think the best thing that could have happened this Dublin team was Kerry beating them in the League Final; it really brought on an extra hunger in them. However Mayo are not without hope; the only flaw and its not of Dublin's doing is ye have not had any meaningful test. If Mayo do win this year it needs to be in 70+ minutes because there will be no second bite of cherry this time round.

The league is an irrelevance

Right Mayo. We had a falling out in 96 but the hatched is buried. Please please please do this for yourselves and the good of the game.

For the good of the game?? So the best team in the country winning would be bad for the game?

A Kerry side filled with the cream of the crop in terms of youth, an excellent midfield and in Geaney & O'Donoghue 2 of the best in the country along with Donaghy experiencing a bit of a renaissance - felt Kerry were in a very good place this year myself.

This Mayo team are probably one of the most admirable and greatest sides I've ever witnessed. This summer sums them up in so many ways - by no means perfect (getting knocked out of Connacht), but never ever giving up as shown through the replays, extra-times and last minute equalisers and all the rest. What I saw from the Dubs yesterday was incredible so I find it hard to see Mayo living with that for 75+ minutes, however if anyone can do it, it will be this Mayo team.

The fact Dublin are going for a 3 in a row is a big attraction. Very few teams get the chance to do so but when they do its a massive achievment and talked about their greatness for time. Galway 3 in a row All irelands in the 60s the Kerry team 4 in a row so the Dubs will want this 3 in a row.

I have a feeling that this could be one of the great finals. Both teams are big, strong and athletic and they like to play the game on the front foot. There is history between the two teams and it will be a full-on, blood and thunder championship game. They are the two best teams in Ireland without doubt and it will be fascinating to see them go toe to toe again for the biggest prize.

Like most neutrals I'd like to see Mayo finally do it and on Saturday I had a feeling that this surely must finally be their year. But having watch Dublin toy with Tyrone yesterday I'm not so sure. The thing is, Mayo can probably match Dublin blow for blow for 55-60 minutes. But Gavin could realistically replace his starting 6 forwards with another 6 who are arguably better. That must be soul destroying for the opposition. You've just gone a full hour hell for leather marking someone like Paddy Andrews for example. You're thinking, that's a nice shift at the office put in when you see him substituted. Next thing you know a fresh and hungry Kevin McManoman is on and mad to run straight through you every chance he gets.

That's how the final was won last year in the replay. Young Costello came on and did the damage as Mayo tired. Unfortunately Mayo don't have the same calibre of player in reserve to make a similar impact. So it's Dublin by 3 or 4 points for me.

A lot of doom and gloom posts / threads on the back of Dublins dominating performance yesterday. Nothing in football is ever straight forward, this Dublin team have won most of their finals by very tight margins so I don't think it will be as one sided as some are predicting.
The performance yesterday said more about Tyrone's lack of a plan B and their apathy towards attacking football.
Mickey Harte is a GAA legend and should be allowed to leave when he wants and I'm sure he'll weigh up where this Tyrone team are under him, Mickey wouldn't stay in charge just to spite people.
Mayo and Dublin are so familiar with each other, they know their strengths and weaknesses and are very evenly matched. Mayo are one of the few teams who can match Dublin physically and won't be naive enough to think they can just drop 15 players in defence to deflate them. They'll test Dublin's resolve as well as their hunger to see if they really do want the 3 in a row.

On a side note, the GAA should get down on their hands and knees and thank Mayo for their journey to the All Ireland final this year. They've been the only attraction for football supporters this season, offering up some terrific entertainment along the way. Bar a few other games here and there we'd have had a very dull summer without them.

Kerry were very poor there is absolutely no denying it. Even against Galway they were extremely flat but won easy due to the fact that Galway never set up believing they could challenge them.
If Dublin get a good start in this one it could be a massacre ... you heard it here first

Who honestly cares if the best team wins. An open championship and a few fairy tales are what people want. Not a megalith steamrolling everyone years on end.

Mayo don't have the same calibre of player starting not to mind to bring on, the Dubs are unstoppable, seem to have gone up another level with more in reserve, last team to beat them in championship were Donegal coached by the genius of Jim Mc Guinness, but for that this would be 5 in a row for the Dubs.

I'd argue the opposite.

Genuinely think they will win it this year, regardless of our horror show yesterday.

Dublin are good. Very good but Mayo haven't got any worse.

I would agree that Mayo are now in good shape, as good if not better than last year. If you are going to peak, make it August and September instead of March and April. Good good side.

My favour for the Dubs though is that they are better than last year. Losing the league final seems to have driven the focus. Another edge for Dublin is the same as last year - we have more a variety of players to score when coming down the home straight. O' Gara and Flynn, not really mentioned this year, got 1-4 when they came on yesterday. BB done something similiar in Leinster final. Young O Callaghan is a another dimension that was missing in 2016. Was worried that Tyone would be too much for him yesterday but gave a very mature performance and looks the real deal.

he thinks theyv regressed because they got rid of the manager and were going through the motions early on in the championship..since getting rid of the manager theyv gotten to 2 all ireland finals getting closer than ever and beaten kerry..anyone remotely objective cannot claim they have regressed..andy moran is flying
