One thing I couldn't get over in Thurles last Saturday was the amount of drinking in the old stand where I was so early in the day its a pity.

Replying To thelongridge:  "Congratulations to Limerick U21 hurlers on winning the All Ireland title yesterday. They were the better team, and were deserving winners.
Good year for the neutrals."
Why what did they win.

Replying To Oldtourman:  "Well yes, but you what I mean. KK have not won a senior football championship since 1929, despite having won three Leinster Football championships by 1911. So KK obviously completely abandoned football unlike Limerick , Clare or Wexford. The last Rugby international from KK was Willie Duggan about thirty years ago and soccer, as in league of Ireland, is not very widely played in KK. Limerick by contrast had five men out of 42 in the the second last Band I Lions Team, an indication of what the promotion of hurling is up against in LL compared to KK."
What about R Kearney, Garry Halpin, played with Ireland since the late Willie Duggan played with Ireland and the lad that played with munster can not think of his first name his second name is Dowling. When was the last time ye won a munster football championship. As regards soccer you should open your eyes on that.

kearney is from louth, and halpin and duggan were over 20 and 30 years ago, we have had a lot of internationals since

the point he is making is that rugby has an advantage in limerick in terms of promotion

10 munster games in thomond v 3 home league games plus 2 championship , thats why the under 21s win was massive for us, a lot of kids got to see 5 more limerick games which is more than what we usually get, They also have seen a limerick team win which boosts the confidence.

Ronan Kearney was from Lisdowney in kilkenny if ye wanted hurling enough ye would do something about it down through the years.

In fairness we have won two All Ireland Football titles and went toe to to toe with teams like Kerry , Cork, Meath and Wexford as late as the past decade. The fact is KK has almost completely abdicated all responsibility for football, since the nineteen thirties

For the first time in a long time Limerick have real quality up front and depth on the bench.

I think they have a massive chance of winning the big one in next few years and i would love to see it. Great hurling county and we need as many counties challenging the big 3 as possible.

I would be a strong advocate of tweaking the system to a round robin to allow teams play more games over the summer. Limerick, Clare, Waterford, Wexford, Dublin, Westmeath and Kerry have done huge work in the last few years with their respective resources and its time to reward them with more games in the summer. Otherwise we will lose them quickly as they disillusioned with lack of game time.

Cautionary tales are all over the place. Over the past 31 years KK have won eight U21 titles, Galway have won seven and Limerick six. Galway have also won several minor titles while Limerick have won none since 1984, yet it took from 1988 to this year for Galway to win a Senior title.
